Not to be a ****, but how can you of been installing for 10 years and not have a meter or test light?
Maybe it's a bad headunit. Also throwing this out there, I had a JVC that would give me no sound at all and I sent it in and it tested fine, put it in my car and it didn't work. Found out that one of the screws on the side that hold the radio to the bracket, if it was in all the way it would short out the sound. So I backed it out and it was fine.

Transmission? Not sure what though.

Ok, so I own a 98 with 103,000 and the transmission is the original. It jerks sometimes, like I hit the gas and it starts to go but its going slow than outta know where it kicks in and hauls ***. Also, when i'm stopped sometimes, it feels like it shakes a little, the engine I mean, I assume thats the trans too? Finally, it seems like it shifts from 1st to 2nd more roughly than any other gears. Any help is greatly appriciated.

this car is such a damn lemon. Now the horn constantly is going off, the security lights are flashing, i had to remove all the relays for the horns to be able to connect the battery. and still the car wont start. the security is beeping at me. This is the worst car i've ever owned.

Put the key in the door and turn it to stop it from the alarm from going off. Try to start the car, if it doesn't start put the car in neutral and try to start it.

I've tried turning the key this way and that...nothing, i disconnected the horn solenoid and fuse from under the hood...no idea when it is honking now, I'm sure the neighbors appreciate it.

The airbag light was flashing a couple days before this happened.

just tell me its DONE so i can tow the damn thing to a junkyard...SO fed up with this car

Did you check all the fuses? Are you sure you have enough juice in the battery to start the car?
Put your location in your profile so maybe a local can help you.

Well here's the funny thing...we just moved to a new area, and its not the best...the rear window fell off the track, and was about 1/2 way down...apparently the horn started going off and cops came to shut it off...i didnt hear any of this going down. Next morning i go out, and the car won't start now. I assumed the cops pulled a relay, but after checking almost every one. i am sure it's something else.

So how would the car shut down if someone was tryin to break in? My guess is they reached in the passnger side, and tried to open the door? But the cops did that when they disconnected the battery. I tried to reset the alarm by moving the key to on..5 sec, then off..5 sec. nothing. not sure if that even applies to me.

I appreciate your help man VERY frustrating

and it DOES have an aftermarket remote entry. You hold unlock and the windows still go down so i know its fine...but just adds to the headache...

Wonder if it's activating the starter kill solenoid?
Did you try to disconnect the battery for a few minutes then connect it back, kind of reset it all. Check the fuses?

It most definitely sounds like it disabled the starter. You should pull the panel off from under the steering wheel (above your knees) not the steering column although that may have to come off as well. Look for the relay and the starter wires.
The starter wires are Black/Yellow or Black/White according to www.the12volt.com and one should be going into the relay and one should be going out of the relay. Connect them to each other and bypass the relay and try that.
Also what year is the car? If it's a 99 try to find the procedure to reprogram your chip in your key. If it's a 95-98 there is no chip.

also, the main window got broke on new years. i really thought that was the problem, but we drove the car home that night...sat all day, then that night the HORN was going crazy...But once we replaced the windshield today the problem still exists. So maybe someone came by, saw the windshield and half opened window and messed with it..triggering the alarm. I dunno. one big mess!

Hello there guys & gals, I wanted to find out more about projector headlights in a 1997-1999 Maxima.

So far I noticed no aftermarket projector headlights are available for this generation, which is a shame because I think this gen looks the best of all Maximas pre-2007. Basically what I'm asking is:
  1. Is there ANY aftermarket projector headlights for a 4th gen Maxima that'll fit 95% or better?
  2. If not, has anyone retrofitted projector headlights into their stock 4th gen Maxima headlights?
Links and basic advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
While I currently own an '01 Sentra XE, I want to get a Maxima by the end of the year (4 doors, reliable engine, sporty, 5speed option, bigger than a Sentra). If I can't find enough possible mods to do to it (my goal is 300ft/lbs of torque, and pimped/riced to my liking), then I may just pick up an '01 Sentra SE and possibly do an AWD GTi-R conversion. Which is a shame, because I really like the '97-'99 Maxima (especially the JDM A31 Cefiro...****ing beeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasssssssssstttttttt)!

You are just bypassing the starter kill that is there for the alarm if there is one. You should post in the regional section and see if anyone is local and can help you.
I am learning the nissan language I speak dsm

300hp you will need a turbo or supercharger.
Nobody really makes projector headlights that would be ideal for dropping in and going for ANY car, unless it's factory. Any projector you would buy would have a ****ty projector in there and the light output is horrible.
The proper way to do it is to buy GOOD/QUALITY projectors and retrofit them yourself.

Typically the key in the door will stop it or hitting the unlock button on the keyfob. If not those two, maybe you have a short? But I doubt it.

Under the dash i found the wires for the starter, so now i should depin them..and connect them directly without going through their connector (which i assume is the relay for this, why else would it be so big) then reconnect the switch (missing ignition, which is hardwired) then try to start my car? bro..there has to be a simple fix it..this seems crazy! just sounds like i'd be making things worse...

Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
lt.green/white with silver dots |-|
at the anti-theft module
located to the left of the steering column.
The module says "Theft Warning" right on it.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely. Car should
start now too.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

this is clearer...I'm not sure if what i found is correct. i cant find anything under the dash near the fuse box labeld ANTI THEFT. lol

Look at the bottom right this is what the relay looks like
http://www.fitsmybudget.com/product....7&bestseller=Y
The starter wires that go into it will be big like 12 or 10gauge. They will be Black/Yellow or Black/White.
Are you sure it has an aftermarket alarm?

Im not sure...the only reason i say so is the windows go down when you hold unlock. didnt think its standard, the FOB is factory. atleast it says nissan on the bottom.

the only wires i saw like you described are contained in the big white connector on the right. the wires that come from the ignition are one color, then at that connector they turn the other. thats why they list both...and thats why i thought that big ol connector contained a relay in it...it doesnt? how far back should i have to go,. and again..this will bypass the alarm? Im not just tryin to start my car. i need it to turn off the damn alarm! the HORN WILL NOT STOP

you realize that wire i am saying to splice is supposedly the wire to DISENGAGE the alarm, which is more of my goal...not hot wire the car.

and it turns out its wrong anyways...wtf, i have taken everything away from the steering column, nothing is there. THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE. ****

edit- guess what, after trying to rip off the steering wheel center piece. the horn no longer goes off 24/7 now why the **** can't i start my god damn car

Well 1 problem fixed. Is the ecu plugged in? It's where your left foot would be if you were the passenger. There is a panel with 2 plugs that just pop off.
You should start your own thread so we can keep track of everything that has been tried and what not. I'll be honest I forgot what of what you tried. And if the car ever ran.

Edit: Nevermind I found it.

Relief to get the horn to stop (and beat the **** out of it) but why can i not reset the damn security system. this is beyond ****ed up for such a simple damn task...GREAT JOB NISSAN! you revolutionized the way we operate vehicles...YOU CANT.

Get in the car and lock the doors with the power lock. Then unlock them with the power lock. That should reset it.

Trunk

So I bought Altezza tail lights about 4 months ago, and they didnt fit. I have a 98 SE. The outter parts fit but the inners didnt, they were straight across and my stock lights are curved in towards the bottom. So ive been looking at the euro tail lights online and I decided to look at the same for a 96 and it appears that the tail lights on my car are for a 96, which means that my trunk is as well because the Altezza's didnt fit in the space correctly. Id like to buy the right trunk if I can find one cheap, im just wondering if its possible that my trunk was replaced because it kinda caught me off guard.

ES trim?

Hey guys, I've got another question: why is it that some Maximas from '95 to '99 are referred to as having an ES trim? Also what IS that anyway (what's so special about it)?
For example: http://www.standardauto.net/used/Nis...2531084f97.htm

I could have sworn that there was just the GXE, SE, GLE, and for '99 I believe, the Titanium Edition...
