Guys don't count normal wear and tear items like Brakes and Aligment parts for a 13 year old car. Kinda defeats the purpose anyway

98 SE

A/C clutch
Ebrake Cable
EGR clog
Knock sensor
Some bearing in transmisson, Possibly could be Throwout or Output shaft bearing

NWAT parts
Ball joint, Tierods, Stab links, Brakes, Motor mounts,

I understand what you mean about some of the stuff but pretty much any item is a wear and tear item really. I mean after a given amount of stress or mileage anything can and will go out on you.

Every sensor, bearing, cable, electical part will eventually wear out, i dont care how much it costs or what company made it. Hell judging by the lower radiator support rust on these cars i would consider the lower radiator support a wear and tear part. I am not saying list everything, but we should include most items besides spark plugs, wiper blades, gas, oil, trans fluid etc.

Also you list an e brake cable so i would consider that a wear and tear item with the brakes. LOL You either use it alot and it goes out or the person before you never used it and its seized and needs to be replaced anyway.

I more or less thought this thread was to inform people what likes to go when and in what amount of miles and or how often something has to be replaced. It is also to see i guess who has replaced the least amount of parts with the highest mileage. Just my .02

178K...just bought new coilovers to replace stock susp...boots went out and soon thereafter the struts were squeaking. the ignition/starter is acting up on me every now and then and it's also time for another tune up. the digital face for the radio is completely black and the speakers were blown when i bought the car. and i still need to replace the antenna that i broke when i got pissed that the motor died. and i think it's time to replace the keyless entry remotes.

but thats it. i have been very pleased with my max in the past 3 years ive owned it. made me appreciate maximas a lot more. Actually, nissans in general.

I bought my first 99 4th gen with 226k on it one owner lol. It was a NJ car and I added about 35k miles on it. It ran like a dream never gave problems, only things I changed on it was oil. My friend's 2k max has about 111k but it is a very unlucky one, problems with power steering, AT tranny, oil leaks. I feel like each maxima has its own surprises, good and bad.

I'm up to 276k and just took her on a road trip up to NYC. Ran great but those roads did a number on my suspension.

recently got a free '97 max from my dad's former boss.
145K and running VERY smooth. haven't had any problem, except for that dang clock. Not quite sure if the former owner replaced anything. So far I love this car.

159,xxx... major replacements: ignition/ starter. Other than that, everything else was just routine maintenance to keep it running smooth for the years to come.

I guess I'll chime-in.....98 SE delivered in March 98 new. Now have 179k and really only the alternator (warranty) and cv axles. Nothing else except brakes and tires and oil and 2 batteries. I anticipate clutch and water pump at some point (not now knock on wood)...

Time is taking its toll--got some surface rust and I looked under the rear right and pushed my fingers through the inner wall of the rear quarter.

My 335i is nearly 3 y.o. now, and I can't imagine that by the time it's 12-13 y.o. it can possibly be as reliable as this Nissan has!

Got it with 98,000 on it and it just clocked 149,460. The girl that sold it to me said she had never took it over 70mph.

Replaced Parts:
The alternator & starter @ 148,500 (old ones were the original parts)
CV halfshafts & boots
Tranny & Radiator flush
Battery and basic fluids

Still runs like a champ and gets 20+ mpg

I30. 126,000mi and still going. HAT, Ebay dual canister muffler, NGK Laser Iridium plugs.
Had it for about 2 weeks and burnt tranny fluid in spirited stop and go and damaged solenoids before I had time to install my Hayden 1015 tranny cooler.
Big enough for a mac truck. Yeah, it fit too. only had to modify the drivers horn bracket. Still shifts ok, but not as firm and a little on the sketchy side(it likes to think about shifting now). :-/ There goes $200 and a couple hours for new ones.

My 96 has 157,800 and the auto is toast, and my 98 has 118,000 and my daughter crashed the front end, but soon the 2 will form as one and I will be back on the road again.

205,000 on a '98 GLE

Just got the radiator support replaced today. Is $800 too much these days? Otherwise, had one bad coil this year and a radiator three years back.

Been driving a Maxima since 1990..... this is my second one and it's just getting broken in!

Drove a 96' se 5 speed for the past year. Drove it from 116k-127k. The car has been a PITA in my opinion.

-Replaced rear struts
-Front brake rotors/pads
-Y pipe and b pipe rusted out. Replaced with Warpspeed/Stillen stuff
-Power antenna died on me
-Both FR tie rod ends
-CPS sensor went out
-Starter solenoid died
-Passenger power window regulator broke. Lock actuator on that side died as well.
-Started leaking oil recently out of the Crank Position Sensor, and the oil pressure sending unit.
-Rockers are rusting out.

As much as I hate this car, it's being sold and I just picked up a 99' se. Let's hope this one isn't such a money pit.

You picked up a car outside of it's original warranty... the stuff u listed isn't out of the ordinary. Either, "You get what you pay for", or "You gotta pay to play". In either case, for the money you paid for either the 95 or the 99, you might be better served with a *newer* and *lesser* car. I suggest the following cars that are about the same price as a 99 Maxima:
01 TL
02 Accord
00-01 I30
02 I35
00 ES300
01 Camry

I think for someone to go for a 10 year old car must have a pressing reason. Either cost (for which I've listed alternatives), or they're a serious enthusiast. Enthusiast cars should be presumed they require more attention.

1997 SE

Have had this auto since 26,000 km or 16,000 miles.
Presently 268,000 km (167,000 mi),
changed alternator at 192,000km (119,000 mi),
drive belts 151,000km (94000 mi),
sway bar links 180,000km(112,000 mi),
axle boots 127,000km (79,000 miles)
otw standard maintenance, brakes, cooling system, transmission flushes. I think I should be doing something with struts but mechanics say they all 'look' okay, but I think the ride leaves something to be desired!
(Speaking of suspension, should I go to a different part of the forum to ask about
suggestions on re-doing the struts, etc? Thanks for any info)

mine has 200,600 miles. just got it on monday. Has a huge exhaust leak at the y pipe, needs tires, front shocks, parking brake cable, fog light bulbs and my steering shimmys at 80 mph and has slight play on it. I'm thinking maybe its the rack and pinion bushing. And the check engine light came on yesterday, maybe becuase of my exhaust leak. Other than those it runs great and strong!! VQ RULES!!!

97 SE, now has 290,000kms

Replaced:
Alternator
Starter
Both front axles
Sway bar end links
Bushings replaced with poly bushings
Struts
Brake pads/rotors on all 4 corners

That's it in all of that time and all those miles. Basic wear items only. I'm not going to nit pick and say "Oil" or "Spark Plugs" or anything like that because that's just a given for good maintenance. Getting a little bit of cancer on the rear wheel wells and around the spoiler mount points, which is also quite good considering it has been driven hard every winter.

Atleast now theres less problems for me to fix. Just got the door stuff, oil press seal, and one rocker panel rust to fix.
