I think spending 4 to 5 months and $2000 on random parts is pretty serious...... could've been supercharged for 2k.

sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere, or it could be a bad 02 sensor causing this.

Good stuff fellas, my only question would have been an explanation for why the goop had a worse affect when the car was warm. But I thought about it and figured start enrichment on a cold engine (open loop) is very high. The PCM dumps a lot more fuel to start a colder engine than it does a warmer engine.

it was the fact that the RTV was collecting gas from the injectors.

when i turned the car off and went into a store for 20 minutes or whatever, and came back out, all the gas the RTV had collected was dripping down into the cylinder.
when i would go to start it up after, the engine would choke, as if flooded with fuel, and the tailpipe would shoot out a tuft of black smoke.

however if the car sat for 5-6 hours, all the gas the RTV had collected and let drip down, evaportated, and i would have a perfectly normal start.

Wow, i'm glad that you've finally managed to solve the problem.

So i guess it's safe to say that if anyone has the same issue and has done all the usual maintainance, should look at a possible leaky injector?

Not following you here. Re-read the post above yours. The excess RTV was the problem.

uhhh...i read post. lol, sorry. What i mean is that a leaky injector can cause the same problem as gas dripping from the RTV in this case.

yes. and its not usually the injector that leaks - its the biggest of the three o-rings that deteriorates and allows excess gas into the cylinder.

i think each set of o-rings for each injector was $3 from dave b.
