Intake Heat Shield

So i've decided to take on a little side project and do some heat reduction under the hood. I've seen a couple members have "custom" heat shields and was curious if anyone had a write-up/template or any other insight as in what materials to use and what not.

i've seen heat shields as simple as cardboard covered in aluminum foil and edged with foam rubber stripping. no lie.

That's funny you mention cardboard, I made a mock up of my idea at work today made of cardboard and my buddy from work thought I was making the actual shield out of the cardboard.

I used cardboard as a model then transferred all the lines over to sheetmetal....bent it accordingly, painted it, secured it, and sealed the top edge to fit the hood underlining profile perfectly with an automotive door seal....Fresh air is feed from under huge gap under the drivers headlight which cools my ignition box and feeds the engine....

Nice, I think I might try and combine your idea while combining the factory snorkel I still have.

I'm just trying to keep myself busy on my days off

I installed my custom made heat shield today. It looks awesome. Even if it doesnt do much if dresses up the engine bay quite a bit and it was a fun little side project while im waiting on my suspension. I'll post a few pics tomorrow afternoon.

This is just one I had snapped with my cell. I'll have a few more later on from different angles with a description of the piece

I just used the air saw at work. The aluminum wasnt to thick so it wasnt that difficult. I finished it off with the bench grinder and then a hand file for precision lol.

I'll get a picture posted soon of the fresh air course. The factory snorkel comes into the shiled from a hole in the bottom section of the shield. I would like to think that this blocks a sigfincant amount of heat from my filter and MAF while providing fresher air from the snorkel.

that would be my write up. Heat shie;lds are great but you have to have a cool air source...i cut a hole for a prcai in my inner fender and used the hole as an inlet for cold air

I feel ya, that why I'm using the snorkel. I liked your write up. I used that a lot when brainstorming ideas for my own design
