Shifting Hard ONLY into 2nd gear!
Since I had 4th Gen Max in '05 it shifted hard into the 2nd gear when at regular throttle. I have an automatic. If I press hard theres a softer shift shift. And by hard shift I mean it feels like the engine is bucking, like the cars gettin hit by something. Sometimes i even try and let off the throttle as Im approaching the height of the gear to ease the bump. No other gear has a hard shift. Only the shift into 2nd gear.
I compared a friend('99 Max) and my TPSs, they are at different heights (1/2" difference) on the throttle body. It appears to be adjustable. So Im wondering CAN THis thing be adjusted?? Can I Lower it a bit or something and try and see if it fixes the problem?
I did take out 1 of the 2 plugs that goes into it and saw no change in performance. When i took out the other the car became practically un drive able.
reference TPS threads below couldnt answer my question.
Bad TPS?

Thanks for the info in the previous thread!! I just moved it into this one
Im looking into the drop resister now cause that link u sent me looks crazy. I aint no mechanic so i wont be doin that lol.
Yes, it's adjustable. You just loosen the screws and rotate it to match the specs in the FSM EC-133. And here's the new improved method: http://www.lyberty.com/car/Maxima_A3...NTB99-053b.pdf.
But offhand, I'd say it's more likely to be your drop resistor.

Sounds like shift solenoid b is faulty
First spill and fill the trans
Pull the stick first and if it looks brown and stinks all burnt like don't touch it but if it's red and smells like roses change it you may just have some crap stuck in your valvebody
it could be your drop resistor but your SES light would be on (po745) and im pretty sure it would shift hard into every gear not just 2nd because its directly in line with the line pressure solenoid im leaning away from this as an option but if you have access to a multimeter the resistance should be between 12 and 13 ohms

Sorry for necro posting, but same issue. Only thing to add to it is that when it's completely cold, it shifts from first to second smoothly, then right after when I need to shift again from 1st to second it kicks. I drained and filled the tranny twice with Royal Purple (oil fluid looked like coffee) and it helped a lot with the harshness, but the kick is still there. Think I should drain and fill again? I don't like doing flushes since I've had bad experiences with vehicles over 100K miles.
Btw, I acquired the car from my buddy and just using his s/n instead of registering a new account, so I'm pretty new to the maxima except for the few things I've replaced on it.
I see some other saying that a faulty TPS can cause these problems. Anyone have luck in fixing this? I don't think it's good on the mounts, lol.

None that I could find, just to make sure I collected all the fluid as I drained it and ran a magnet through it and didn't see anything. My buddy wasn't the best when it comes to car maintenance =P Now I'm just checking and fixing anything I see wrong with it.

Find some AMSOIL trans fluid instead of RP. Run that through and fill with that...then if still shifting hard, you may need a valve body upgrade or a shift kit, as mentioned above.
In other words, your trans *may* be on its way.
