Whining starter

Another start up thread fellas, but my issue seemed different than the other ones I've found.

Basically, I turn my key and my starter would whine until it finally catches and cranks. I would have to twist the key for seconds until it starts though. Sometimes it would start faster than others, but would whine before starting regardless. RPMS and everything remain dead while this is happening until it catches. It IS coming from my starter. I took it out and regreased everything, but the problem still remains. When I took it apart I didn't see anything detrimental so I don't know if it needs to be replaced or not. Should I just replace it since the whining is the same even after regreasing it or is there something else that could be causing this? I guess I will check the cam sensor, but I cleaned it like 8 months ago. Thanks

If you KNOW it's the starter, and you regreassed it with no results, then why not replace it? Lol

It's the starter. It sounds like the pinion gear is not being pushed out far enough so that it engages the flywheel. Don't waste your time on the cam sensor, just replace the starter.
