Help Removing Starter... if you've removed it please read this...

My '95 SE is having the grinding-screeching starter noise problem that lots of people have discussed. Supossedly due to dry/lost grease, I figured I would try and fix it first before just buying a new one. Anyway I just spent the last hour trying remove that 17mm bolt on the back side of the starter. One post here refered to it as "tack welded", I'd belive it. After lots of WD-40 and the biggest socket wrench I have, I'm calling it a night and may go shopping tomorrow.

My question is this: for those of you who have removed that stubborn bolt, what worked for you? A long pipe over the socket wrench? WD-40? a pnumatic wrench? any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I used a breaker bar and me and my brother took turns pulling on the sucker.

starter removal

I did the starter fix at about 65k miles on a 95. After removing all the intake tubing I used a 24" half-inch drive breaker bar on the socket. It came loose with a little bit of muscle-nothing that I would call excessive force.
Good luck.
