EGR hose severed

EGR hose severed
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!
I took advantage of long cooking times and the fair weather to jack my car up and check a few things out. One of my codes that pops up now and then is an EGR code. (I think p0400...anyways) I have the new canister vent valve doohickey, but I decided it was best to investigate the area. Here's what I found.
That hose in the middle, it's not supposed to be cut off of whatever that thing is, is it? I don't think so....<br/><br/>This is facing the front of the car, from behind the driver rear tire.
Anyways, this is a new area for me, so I'm looking for more experienced opinions and ideas on how I can fix this. I've got 3 months to get this car to pass inspection, and it's looking like a mild winter so....I'm ready

I'm having a hard time identifying something I usually see from the top. Could you do other pictures, from the top?
Glad you are thinking ahead to inspection. Much easier to figure out how to do something if there is enough time.

I wish I could, but there's not much space to get a good picture there. Also, above all that is my gas tank and the trunk. This is all directly behind the driver rear tire, underneath in the region below where the gas door is.

The egr lives on the engine, not here. Now I realize that what I see is the charcoal canister area, on the other end of the car.
it looks like the hose was attached to the flying saucer thing above the strap. There should be a nipple on the flying saucer. Slide hose onto it. Pinch hose clamp so it will slide on.
It's possible that the nipple broke off. it might be in the hose. if so you need to find a new flying saucer.

The canister vent pipe thing can be cleaned and lubricated. if you hear a clicking noise when it gets 12 volts, works. You might be able to return your new part. instructions on YouTube.
As a matter of fact, a lot of 4th gen videos are on you tube.

I found the cut valve and also the evap canister at the warehouse. I ordered the canister just in case I need to replace it, since I'll be down there anyways.
Are there any specific instructions I need before I venture on with this? Or is this just a simple swapping of old parts with new parts?

Awesome!
You guys are a blessing. I'm so fortunate to have this forum as a guide. As a girl who doesn't get much help from the local male dominated mechanical world, it's nice to get such detailed assistance like this. Thanks for everything I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Dennis mik, thanks for the proper name of the part.
You might be able to find that part at the junk yard. The one I called a flying saucer.
The charcoal canister is filled with a chunk of.... charcoal. It can start to disintegrate when it gets old. Tiny bits of charcoal get sucked through the vaccuum hoses and clog the hoses, foul up the sensors...... I helped a friend with a Pathfinder. Blew the vaccuum lines out with a compressor, etc. His labor estimate was 1500 bucks.
The detached hose could actually cause your code. Fixing the air leak might clear the code.
Look at the post today called p1440. It is a similar problem.
