ABS sensor corroded to steering knuckle

20 years of Northeast Winters and salt.

Sensor was bad and needs to be replaced.

Tried to back it out but it's welded by Mother Nature. Broke off the part outside the steering knuckle exposing a magnetic shaft. Heated that and pulled it out. Now I'm left with some plastic fill between the magnet and metal housing married to the knuckle all inside the knuckle. Snug fit metal to metal and corroded.

If I pull the CV axle, will I have a clean shot to the inside part of the sensor where it passes through the knuckle or will the hub be in the way? If the hub isn't in the way, would a drill bit the same size as the sensor clean it out without distorting the cylinder dimensions in the knuckle. Or does the whole knuckle need to be pulled from the car and/or some other method of removing all the crap?

Just another F'in BIG little job!

Thanks in advance!

You Southern boys are clueless on what Salted Winters do to our Northern vehicles. Yeah, so you got better chicken. We got salt.

I already pulled the tie rod end, unbolted the Strut and pulled the CV Avle out so all that's connected is the ball joint. With the axle out of the way, thankfully the sensor is OUTSIDE the seal and is clear to push the sensor out. And I can move it all around for total access. Liberal amounts of Moovit and pounding with a 24 oz hammer via a similar diameter shaft and it laughs at me, and now even louder at you. LOL

That **** is welded by corrosion.

So I ordered an 18mm drill bit which looks to be the exact hole size to get it done right!

Big Shout out to JSutter as he's done it before and advised on the amount of disassembly to get a clean shot at getting it out right. I'll post pics when done.

I live in Minnesota, same problem as you.
I removed everything and beat it out. Drilled and sanded the hole. Hell of a job.

I should add that when I beat it out, I started with a small punch and after I got through the sensor with that I used something bigger and just gradually made the hole bigger.

Sounds stupid but I couldn't even get the rear caliper bracket off it was rusted so badly, and at the time, I didn't own an impact wrench. Since not on a lift, there was not enough room to get a breaker bar in.

Not stupid at all. More like reality. LOL Next lifetime, I wanna be rich with a fully equipped repair and restoration garage on my property with at least one lift.
