Multiple problems??
Hi there, I have a 97 Maxima and the starter has been giving me problems and iv3 been meaning to get a new one and then a couple nights ago I went to town and came home without problems at all, but when I went to leave in the morning I tried to start it and it would just turnover but wouldnt fire up so I went and purchased a starter and a code reader and PO340 Camshaft Position Sensor A Bank 1, and PO325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction Bank 1 or Sensor 1 codes came up, so I threw the starter on and I'm wondering what I should do next, do both of these sensors need to be replaced, or does the knock sensor just not let it start when it thinks there may be a knock in the engine and is that what's going on here or how do I tell? I guess I just need to know what to do next from anybody that knows, I'm not a mechanic, although I have somewhat of an understanding of the basics, thank you in advance, Jesse
As stated above, there is one camshaft sensor. Replace it.
Don't worry about the knock sensor code for now. It will not keep the engine from starting. That code always comes up with every other code and goes away when you fix the other problem. If it doesn't go away, then replace the knock sensor.

Cam sensors are pretty cheap. I believe a common issue with them is a leaky o-ring fouling the sensor. You could try removing the sensor and cleaning any oil off it if the o-ring is leaking, and just see if it solves the issue. Then you would just need to replace the o-ring and not sensor.
