superwhite bulbs in dash

i've seen pics of colored bulbs in the dash (behind a/c, bose, etc.) and they look good. but anyone have any pics of superwhite bulbs in the dash? i'm wondering if its even worth it - if the brightness of the superwhite bulbs would even show through the buttons, or look weird with the green clock and bose display?

My gauges:
Gas light is regular bulb.
Speedo is hyperwhite.
Tach and temp are red LED.

Time delayed:

Non time delayed:

When my LED blew out, I put in all orange bulbs. Looked a lot nicer. No pics of that.

Also, when I took out all the bulbs, the socket was starting to show signs of burning from the hyperwhites. NOT a good thing!

I had blue LED in my gauges, they looked great but after a week they burned out. So I put the stock ones back on. Does anybody know why?

Same thing happened to ny96max's blue LEDs. Blew out after a week.

Mine lasted about three months.

they started burning! did you run them on the brightest setting (after the dial "clicks")? I was going to definitely change the gauges to hyperwhite, they look real nice. but i'm wondering if i should also do it to the dash buttons too. thanks for the pic

Yep ... highest setting.

And just a reminder ... the first pic is not what it looks like. That is a time exposed pic. The second one shows that it is not much brighter than stock. The color is just a little whiter, that's all.

And yes ... you can do the dash buttons too.

Sorry, but is the stock bulb an LED bulb?

I want to throw in some regular 197 bulbs or whatever they are in the dash, but just hyper white. I saw it on someone elses Max, looked great, much better then stock. The LED bulbs are not the standard bulbs right?

And they are not LED bulbs.

I have the PIAA SuperPlasmas (IIRC) and they make a huge difference vs. stock 194s. I haven't had a chance to check my sockets... but if they look alright, I'm getting rid of the Christmas colors... Funny how some of the 4th gens have red needles...

Mine was with the blue condom things.

Which was another issue because the condom was slightly melted onto the hyperwhite bulb. I had to peel it off and ruined it in the process.

I heard that 98s don't use 194 in the guages? Is this true? I have a 98 I30t and i want to change it, but i heard somone said that the older ones like the 95-96 use 194 bubls. If i have 194 bulbs behind my guages, im getting white and blue 194 led bubls right away. What is this condom thinge you guys are talking about?

from my understanding, they are blue covers that go over the bulbs to make the output of the stock bulbs less yellow. i also have a '98 so i have the same problem. seems like the only way to solve it is to get into the dash and just figure out whether the bulbs are 194 in your car specifically.

My speedometer has the 5Watt PIAA SuperPlasmas and the others are 5Watt 'VIP' (forgot name) colored ones.

I think POLARG makes the VIP bulbs. Polarg makes pretty cool superwhite 194 bubls, i use them on my license plate lights. White with a slight tint of blue. PIAA platnum superwhites are less blue and a little more yellowish compared to the polargs.

Unfortunately 98-99 Maxima's do NOT have the 194 bulbs in the guages. I opened them up to see cuz I wanted either hyperwhite or blue bulbs, but they are some kind of tiny bulb. Instead of searching around, I dsecided to just go with indiglos. Im happy with the way they look.

The SuperPlasmas are white in appearance but have a blue coating/glass. They're pricey at about $15 a pair.

How long have you had these, and have you had any problems with melting?

Hey, how do you remove the guages to replace the bulbs? Is it the 2 screws under that little over-hang about the gauges, then just unscrew the guages?????

Also, what are the brightest bulbs that i can use (white ones) that won't melt the housing or mess anything up back there. thanks.
