Pinstriping

I have just purchased a white '97 Max SE with black leather. Any suggestions for subtle pinstriping?

If you must pin stripe it, Charcoal Grey is my vote.

Yeah, dark color pinstriping would look better on lighter color Max's, either a charcoal gray like njmaxseltd said, or a black stripe

lol - i saw a prelude yesterday with dodge viper style stripes made outta duct tape - - dont put pinstripes on it - your car looks better w/o them ........i have them on my car - i aint too crazy about them, but if i take them off, my rims wont match.(gold pin stripe, gold rims)

Pearl white on black leather = best combo there is. Therefore, don't ruin it man! Lay off the pinstripes.

how about gettin the pinstripe off? i have a gxe and i'm planning on converting the exterior to SE (i.e. no chrome, no pinstripe). so how would one go about stripping the pinstripe? (stupid joke, i know)

search...it's there, i remember a thread about it...but it just involved using a hairdryer to peel off the pinstripe, and then goo gone and waxing to get rid of the leftover glue, but search, you'll get a better explanation

and pinstriping isn't really worth it to get done...i actually want to get rid of my gold pinstripe on my GLE, but my parents would kill me after shelling out the extra $$ for the gold package back in '97

Funny...

You want pin striped and I almost paid to get mine taken off! (Don't worry, I didn't though...) Too bad we can't reused them of I'd ship them to you ASAP! Honestly though, you should lay off the pin-stripes. They tend to detract from the beauty of a car, a "bad" accessory like unpainted mudguards.

my honest opinion for pinstriping is don't get any at all. pinstriping makes cars look ugly.

I'm taking mine off. Just gotta get some solid good weather so I can do the rubbing compound and wax.

I gotta ask if anyone knows how to get the chrome out from around the windows.

It is the best... isn't it!

That's what we just got, Pearl white with black leather. I too need to remove the chrome (it's a GLE) from various areas, but that'll happen soon enough.

Oh yeah... don't do the pinstripes!!! If anything, I've seen some charcoal or black stripes (1" or so) down by the body moulding. That looks OK, and I used to have it on my 91 SE (also white / black), but decided I liked the all white exterior better.

OK, guys, I'm convinced. No pinstriping on my '97 Max. I do plan to have a body shop paint the exposed lip at the very bottom of the car body under the doors. It's a ragged metal edge that extends down about 1" and I believe should be painted a flat black - just between the front and back wheel wells.

Thanks for all of the input. I love the car. It has the following mods:

Performance: Stillen intake and Cattman Y-pipe; Eibach Pro-kit springs; Tokico struts; Stillen rear sway bar; Courtesy strut tower braces - front and rear. Nu-tech speed links (I'm thinking about going back to the stock parts here with Energy Suspension bushings The Nu-tech links are noisy). 225x55x16 Bridgestone Potenzas.

Appearance: Clear lenses and new bulbs (don't remember the brand)

I actually like my pinstriping

My pinstriping is off-black and looks really good on my pearl white Maxima.

What I do like about it though is that the pinstripe starts from the front of the car (two-line, pointed at the front), goes horizontal towards the back but when it reaches the rear door near the c-pillar, it curves up and continues almost horizontally on the rear quarter panel, then the two-line pinstripe terminates with a point in the rear).

The fact that the trunk line is higher than the hood and door line makes the pinstripe match the car very well!

O.k., if it makes you feel better you can tell yourself that.

Pinstripes are GONE

Took then off this afternoon. They were silver on my black 98. Gotta say, I am impressed. The pinstripes break up the lines of the car. I think it has a much "fuller" look now.

A little feedback though:

1 - use a hairdryer or let the car set in the sun for a while. I did the sunny side of the car first. it was ok but when I went to the dark side, it was incredible hard. I turned the car around and let it sit until I couldn't hold my hand on it. it worked great.

2 - Don't use any tools unless you have too. On the first side, I used several tools (credit card, plasic putty knife, letter opener, and even a razor blade). I found if I scraped the stripe off, the adhesive stayed. If I pulled them off, there was little to no adhesive left behind. I used the tools on the 2nd side only to get the striping up and pulled them off.

3 - if you do have to take the adhesive off. Citrus based cleaners are the way to go. I tried a bunch of stuff and found Fantastik with lemon. Took it right off.

Well, hope this helps someone. I appreciate all your inputs, I am glad I took them off.

Mike

I agree. Although extremely cheesey, they aren't rice. But Nissan doesn not put them on, the dealers do.

once again i will respectfully disagree with "extremely cheesy", but you are right, its the dealers duty, not nissan's

*speaking of extremely cheesy, i had some 6 year old aged cheddar this weekend, that is some good stuff, it melts in your mouth
