You know, you're right. That's why I always see just one person (usually a woman) step out of these behemoths at the local grocery store, after spending the last 10 minutes trying to park it in vain.
To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen any of these mega-utes with more than two people in them. The other day, on my way to work, I found myself surrounded by SUV's at one point. They were all single occupant (driver) with the exception of one, which had two people.
To be able to rationalize the fact that you "need" one of these things is truly an interesting phychological phenomena. Take the gas money you'd save from not buying a 10 mpg SUV and RENT a freakin vehicle for the 3 times a year you go camping.
Thankfully, the SUV craze seems to be ending. Apparently Ford is discontinuing the Excursion next year, and there are more and more station wagons and cross-over vehicles on the market now (some really nice ones too).

Nephew when he has to fill up his Excursion =
My reaction =
Would you believe he had the nerve to tell me that I should get one? I told him that if I did, it would be the diesel. At least I could pass one or 2 gas stations with that.

Does he have to bend over while the attendants take turns?
Out of curiosity, how much does it cost him to fill up?

I do have to comment on the ride to work though...you never know how many of those 'single' occupant SUV's are chock full of equipment, paperwork, samples, or other stuff for legitiamte and frequest use that may simply be low enough not to be seen from outside...
jsut a thought...

That's at least a month's worth of gas in the Maxima.

I used to be lucky...I owned a Syclone.
With about $1000 in mods, she went 12.81 (don't remember the mph) with 1.7x 60' times. Per the G-Tech, it went 0-60 in 4.1.
It also got 10 mpg.
The Syclone was only produced for sale in 1991 with about 2400 copies. The Typhoon was for sale in '92 & '93, but I don't remember the production run for those.
The Syclone's VIN was sequential, too. I had #885.
Unfortunately, it was the first turbo vehicle I owned. So let's just say, "I learned from experience". Especially when the fuel tank wasn't baffled and the pick up was at the front of the tank.
So before it cleaned out my bank accounts, I sold it.
