Maxin Out

I just bought a 2k maxima auto. Well i took it for a top speed run and ran into a dilemna. The car is great to about 125mph with the od off, but then the rev limiter kicks in and the car goes to 125 the stops, keeps doing this pattern. Well i read in one post that at the point where you rev limit in 3rd gear you should hit the o/d switch. Well i did on one of the runs but did it to early and lost acceleration. What techniques do you autos use to hit your max?

i'm new and i dont' know what this forum is like and don't take it the wrong way, but unless you're doing this on a track, GROW UP!! don't be doing stupid things like this and risking your life and even worse, the lives of others. just isn't worth it man. if you're on the track, i'm sure that someone will help you out. either way, be smart, you have an awesome car. don't jeapordize it or yourself by doing stupid things. just my 2 cents...who knows, i just may be dumb...

First off, I don't premote street/highway racing normally but leave OD off for the entire run. I hit 130 mph no sweat, at that point the compter or (ECM) kicks in and stops me from doing anything else stupid Be safe out there.....

What are the tires rated at? If they are H...thats your issue. The 'H' rated tires have an ECU limit on them. Other than that the Max runs until drag limited.

Apexi RSM removes the speed limiter.

It's not as cheap as the 3rd/4th gen "cut-wire" and add a switch mod, but you don't have to worry about a CEL if you leave it on too long either.

Well - my experience with my '95 and 2k3 has been that you floor it with the OD on, and even after shifting to OD the car will continue to pull after until it hits max speed. If you car is a GLE or GXE, that's supposed to be an electronically limited 130 mph, the speed rating of the original tires. If it's an SE, that should be around 140 mph or so (4th gen was 140; 2k3 is 145; don't know about 2k).

I'm sure you didn't, but DON'T do max speed runs with anyone else on the highway. Risking yourself is one thing, but it's not fair to others to risk them.

If your 2k auto is like mine was, you probably have a limiter at 130 (depends on stock tires). If you do, dont bother shifting to 4th with the OD button to get it to 130 because thats where your 3rd gear rev limiter is anyway.

However, you can remove the speed limiter with an Apexi Rev Speed Meter (about $200). If you do this, first of all you need to upgrade your tires to a better rating, which you should do anyway high-speed driving (mine are WR rated).

With the limiter gone, you want to shift in to 4th as late as possible w/o hitting the 3rd gear rev limiter (about 125 is good). This will put you into 4th @ about 4500 rpms and you can top the car out. Don't expect much though, your car wont go much passed 135 on flat ground w/ neutral wind. Are you stock? If not, what mods do you have?

Also, I was wondering if a manual tranny is better for top speed runs due to the gearing? Will a manual have a higher top speed? Anyone know?

I've gotta agree with most of this post. There are no tracks out there that you would be able to drive 125 mph on. The guy that posted this is 16. We'll see how long he has his license for.

I think I have tried the top speed thing in my car ONCE on an extremely deserted highway.

I did this run at 2:00am on a 5 mile straight away. There was no one on the road so the only person that was at risk was me. I'm not sure what my tires are rated but they are expensive tires. They are 205/55/16 maybe that is why when i hit 125 the 3rd gear rev hits in instead of at 130. The car is stock, but im putting a frankencar on.

Must be a 4th gen mod?

145+ indicated, no fuel-cut.

No need to guesstimate either.

hey i know this should get a few laughs, but while you guys figure out how to go faster, is there anyway i can make my car cut me off at like 95mph? i really need to regulate myself after the last ticket and just need a way to make sure i dont "accidently" go too fast...

ONLY use cruise control to ACCELERATE once you shift into top gear.

It will stop/max out at 89mph, which on my car indicates 93-94mph.

That's what I do. I just wish I could use cruise control up to just under 100.
