Dealer visit - wish me luck
Dealer visit - wish me luck
I just dropped off my 2000 SE at Hilltop Nissan in East Hanover, NJ. Mileage on the car is just over 31K, so it's in for a major service (coolant flush, tranny fluid replacement, etc). It's too damn cold to work outside so I'm paying to have it all done, and it was an excuse to have the car in for all the TSB work. Plus, I figured since I was paying for a service, they wouldn't give me a hard time on the warranty work. No such luck
The car threw a code over the weekend, which turned out to be perfect timing. My new Equus code-reader came in yesterday - I got a 'coil' code and a cylinder misfiring. I told the dealer about the light on, and asked them to check it out. I made no mention of the TSB or the fact that I already know what the problem is. We'll see what they try to take me for.
It took me 10 minutes of discussion to convince the service writer that the brakes are covered under the TSB, but they wouldn't include the pads. Then he looked at me like I had three heads when I mentioned the fuel cut problem on the 5-speeds, and asked me for the TSB number. I just called the guy back with the TSB number on the fuel cut and told him the brake TSB also includes the pads. He said no way, etc etc etc, then asked another guy, who said sure, they're covered, too. The guy he asked was the same guy who originally told him they weren't covered. Wtf kind of game is this, anyway? Do they take the best used-car salesmen and turn them into service writers or something??
Has anybody had any experience with this dealer, or is this typical service department behavior?

fairly typical. your observation of the used dept -> service seems to be on the mark.. at least that how they act. very shifty.... SHIFT_y service...
Honestly, I've tried to avoid those places. There are service depts that dont play games.. they are just hard to find. I gotta drive 30 mins to it, but it beats the alternatives..

Ok, here's the deal. I got my brakes done under the warranty, no cost. The throttle sensitivity issue was also taken care of (ECM reprogamming).
They also replaced the coil for the #4 cylinder, but not the others. However, my paperwork show a warranty claim for ALL the coils. When I asked the service manager about the discrepancy, he said that's how the code shows up in the computer. I think the guy is just a sh**ty liar, and I want to contact Nissan directly. Does anyone have an e-mail address or a telephone number for someone in Nissan's corporate offices?
I figured I'm owed 5 more coils, seeing as how Nissan will be paying for them on the warranty claim.

I recently purchased a 2000 SE Auto Loaded with 25000 miles on it. I changed over to Mobil 1 and did a couple of minor mods. How would anyone approach a dealer as to the TSBs that are out? ie brakes / tranny / coils / anything else?
Just asking opinions.
Thanks
