H.I.D. Replaced by Halogen
H.I.D. Replaced by Halogen
OK, I know this subject has been beat into the ground, BUT . . . I have a different question on the topic.
I would like to hear from anyone has replaced the HIDs on an '02 or '03 with halogens from a '00 or '01.
Have thieves tried to lift the halogens, mistaking them for HIDs?
I ask because my friend at work was looking at selling his '03, as his HIDs were stolen twice. He loves the car, and will entertain replacing them with halogens ONLY IF they are not likely to be stolen. Are most of the HID thieves smart enough to know the difference?
Thanks.

The thieves know what they are looking for and would be really stupid to steal a 2k1 light from a 2k2/3 max. Would they steal my 2k1 headlight if I have a 2k2 tail light. (Please do not answer it was meant as a rhetorical question)

I would think not... when you look up close, you don't see the special bulb that an HID has.

I'm getting very interested in this. My HID's are making me a bit nervous in NYC streets, I drive to work and park outside.... Thanks for the info.
I don't knw how they were connected my body shop did it.
There is a slight gap between the bumper and the light. My bodyshop offered me to raise the bumper or to put some weather rubber guard, i opted for the rubber since someday i will put my hids back on.
I still have all the features I had before except for the brightness of HID's.
Hi/Low works, Auto works.

It will never blow over, especially with this new law of all aftermarket HIDs being taken off the shelfs. Now people can't even buy aftermarket HID's legally, so where do you think they're going to go to get them?

Maybe, maybe not. Thieves are crazy but not stupid. HIDs off of other cars like Lexus and BMW are much harder to steal and would take too muchtime to just steal the HIDs, the time it takes to take off the HID's off that car, they can take the whole car. I think the thieves would still stick to the Maximas, but expand from NY/NJ and it would start happening all over.
Maybe they would even start hitting the S4's and TL-S again.

May very well be time to look into those AE headlamps. This is fuked up!

Ummm... that really should be quite obvious, as the halogens are "dime a dozen" and the HIDs are the large profitable items.
I can't think of ANY postings where an 00 or 01 Max had its headlights stolen.

To newbie thieves, the difference is not quite that obvious. They can't tell the difference between HIDs and halogens.

Ummm. . . I was told by a local Nissan dealership, as was my co-worker, that the Halogens are being stolen now also. So, apparently, this is happening. I'm sure that these thieves are quite surprised when they find out the halogens are worthless.
