Is this a good dollar amount???

Ok...the guy from my insurance company called me today and gave me my settlement offer. The first time he screwed up and quoted me at 18,100...with 8xxxx miles i new he was wrong. But of course I accepted. No more than 15 min later he calls and admits he made a mistake, and then told me that the total payout was 16K minus loan payoff and deductible so I'll have a grand total of 5200 to use. Is that a good offer? I thought so...and my next question is what should my course of action be next? 2001 or 2002 with high miles? Lemme know...thanks.

I'm not too sure about the insurance deal, but ...

Having been an owner of a 2001 and a now owning a 2002, I was equally happy with both of them. To me, in everday driving the speed difference is negligible. Buy based on what you can afford and whichever car is most mechanically sound, be it 5 gen or 5.5. Strangely, my 2002 has been more reliable than my 2001.

Get a I30 if you can, better resale value. Your not getting a manual anyways so I would get a I30t or if you can I35.

i35 is a beauty. but the i30t looks good too.. it all depends what your goals are.. do you accelerate hard offten, if so get the I35. if you do a lot of highway driving get the I30

Good luck with your search for your next Maxima. I would say get another 01' since i have never had any problem and I hear it's the best production year.

Here's a hypothetical situation...Imagine I get another maxima, an 02 perhaps, but I put my mom on it as the primary signer and me as the cosigner. She would be eligible to cover the car under her name correct? And since I live with her, I can drive that car and be covered (if in an accident) correct? God I hope so, because I'll buy a black 02 tomorrow if that's the case. There's one for 17K with 40000 miles. The only thing is that I can afford the car, but not the insurance.

Check out other insurance companies, I've had great luck with State Farm. And also, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you the one that was T-boned by your buddy?? Unless you ran a stop sign or red light...why is it your fault and why is your insurance going up?

That would prob work with your Mom to get tlower insurance rates, but just keep in mind that if she co-signs your car to be part owner for insurance reasons ties up her credit also...just a side note.

Yeah I understand that. She cosigned for me before though...and she said she would be fine with it again. My credit is in good standing but isnt established yet. I had like a 730 out of 850 on my credit rating so I think I may be ok on my own but im sure. She's more worried about me getting in over my head anyway. But she knows that if she cosigns, she's allowed to drive it anytime she wants.

oh yeah and the only reason my insurance is going up is because the claim was over 1000 dollars. In the state of minnesota, any accident over 1000 dollars has to be reported to the state and will go on driving record.

Are you sure about that? I've heard from many customers of mine that if they put in claim with THEIR own insurance, and it's over $1000, then THEIR premium will go up. But if the accident wasn't your fault, why should your premium go up? It doesn't make sense. I'd be more concerned about getting that side of the deal squared away, before I'd be looking for another Max. Just my .02

The accident isn't my fault, but the insurance company paid a claim of 10000+ and with any accident whether no fault or fault, it still goes on your driving record. At least in this great state. When the insurance company renews my insurance, they'll see that I had an accident...and i guarantee you fault or no fault won't matter to them. That's why I think I'm gonna pursue the plan I had with getting my mom to insure the car.

Wow, I've never heard of that. I don't think I'd be okay with that. I would definitely have something to say if somebody elses mistake affected my pocket book. I mean accidents happen, but why should you have to pay for it. Damn, sorry to hear that.

State farm is very fair and I actually have a setup that might help you. We have 3 cars on our policy. '03 Max, '01 Volvo S-40 and a '93 Max... I am listed under the 93 Max and due to some clause they have there (since I live in the home of the account holder I guess), im automatically insured under the other two cars for the price of the 1993. Furthermore, the 2003 Max is under my name.

Dude you need to check out other insurance companies just to give yourself piece of mind...just be honest with them, but def call and get other quotes including your current insurance company.
