CANADA Dealers overpricing MAF's on purpose?

Hi Gang,

Something very interesting WRT my 2000 SE:

I called DaveB and got a price on a new, entire MAF assembly $103.58 USD. (~130 CAD) Current part number is 22680-2Y001, and it is interchangeable/supersedes 22680-AD201.

All the canadian dealers (including my own) that I called wish to sell the same part to me for $485 USD (599 CAD).

At first the dealers all told me there was no ecu re-programming required, after I made sure, I told them I heard it was needed, and like magic, they found something that said it needed to be done.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Yeah the reprogramming is needed from what I remember. I also priced these out in Canada 1 year ago and they were the same price as you found them. I ended up buying it from a US dealer for much cheaper.

I really appreciate your reply.

Has your maf gone wonky since you reprogrammed it? I have an '00 that is sluggish, and doesnt pull beyond 2k rpms on an incline...

the dealerships i called wanted $400 to reprogram it. I feel like swapping out the ECU altogether.

Hm, they just changed their price to reprogram to $129 when I asked why the MAF was cheaper in the US.

No need to PM, expose the theives. I bought a replacement MAF from DAVEB because I know someday it will go bad and I have one sitting in the garage when that day comes.

Actually, all 3 dealerships quoted the same price on the parts.

Parts wise I've found Mills to be generally cheaper, with westend a close second, and ericksen often charging a bit more cuz they carry infiniti as well.

Ericksen is the most elitest, Mills has been good for parts & advice to not let u overspend (I rebuilt my previous 240 sx through them).. and I have a good friend who bought his brand new sentra from teh westend.. they seem to be the best for all around client service (and courtesy cars for anything as long as you book in advance)

My car is a Westend car, and i've always gotten honest service from them so far. Once I decided to go to Vancouver on 1 hours notice, they squeezed in an oil change and alignment for me, lent me a car to grab some things for the road. It was great, and I didnt even buy the car through them.

I had to replace my wipers, and Westend was the only one that told me outright I should buy wiper refills and keep my nice metal arms and save a few bucks. I'm about to take my max into them for transmission problems if the maf doesnt clear it (warranty work) so i guess that'll really show how they are.

Ericksen wouldn't budge on most anything, Mills just was confused (always seem to be in service), but westend I was just upfront with (they told me where to save $200 on spark plugs and not pay them), and they just told me what they could do without much problems.

Where have you guys had good/bad luck? I drive a pearl white SE in the north/downtown, honk if you see me, I notice maximas a lot more now that I've had one for a year

1-The labor rate in canada is high
2-Supply is lower in canada as there isn't as much demand

Should I go on? We have like 5K different auto parts stores in the US and you guys have "Canadian Tire")j/k but not really

my whole assembly including sensor and tube ran 86 shipped while jerry rome was having an 8% off their normal 12& discount to org members.

Canadian dealers are re-known for over charging on parts, I was quoted 569$ for an ABS sensor, I didn't bought at that price, I mean give me a break, that doesn't worth that much money. I didn't really start searching around but something it telling me that I will find one for much less than what I was quote for. Oh they also charged me almost 500$ for the IAC valve so with labor and a oil change the dealer took me 867$ cdn

No and No. For some reason it seems that Nissan Canada has decided to screw us on this particular part.

I think "Jer" on here and Toronto Maxima is selling an MAF for a 2000-2001 if anyone needs it.

I am inclined to believe the same. I wonder if it's limited to the few parts that are almost guaranteed more likely to break in a maxima?

Oh well, I'll just source my parts out of the states, they can't complain or not warranty their work as long as it's original OEM and sealed.

I also purchased my 2K2 from West End, mainly because they were willing to give me a better price than any of the other dealerships and they also treated me like I was a valued customer. When I went to Ericksen to check things out, I was given the impression that THEY would be doing ME a big favour by selling me a car. Not only that, but when I asked them to beat the price that West End had quoted me for the car, they actually laughed at me and told me to go buy it quick from West End.

I went to West End for my first service (free oil change with car purchase) and was not impressed. I have strong suspicions that a few items on the "checklist" they simply checked off without actually looking at them. Not only that, but there was a dirty spot on my roof when I got the car back that I am POSITIVE was not there before I dropped it off. I have not been back there since. I bought parts from Mills once and that experience was good. The parts guy actually knocked the price of the part down because he felt like it was too high, and he was pleasant to deal with.

Here is another parts "watch out for" for fellow Canadians. My car needs new brake pads soon and I called our local Nissan dealership (GP Carland) for OEM pad prices and was quoted $118 each for front back pads, so $236 total. At JRnissanparts.com, I can get them shipped for $90.89 USD total. Even with exchange and brokerage fees, there is no way it will anywhere near as expensive as my local stealership.

I am in north Edmonton quite often and will keep my eyes peeled for a pearl white SE.

How do you know when the MAF is going bad? What are the symptoms?

bigfly: i just paid 300+ for a new set of rotors and pads, I really wish I woudl have checked here first. It seems I cant buy anything for my max from any dealership.

I'm sure each dealership has its good and bad experiences, when I did my last oil / alignment enroute to vancouver (drove striaght out of town from the dealership), they squeezed me in on a really busy day, and my car was even washed for me when i got it back.. I do think its good to let them know you know what you're talking about so they don't **** you around.

Same price I got from Morrey Nissan Vancouver BC, they tell me they only sell the whole assembly. It's better to buy from DaveB.
