maf quoting from dealer

so i took my car in to have the maf replaced. the dealer told me that it was the maf and that they were also gonna replace the drop in filter in my stock airbox because it wasn't the oem one and he said that it would be $770 and some change. freaking crazy. i got it under warranty so no worries. i don't know...just thought that i would post because it was so ridiculous

You're lucky. The place I went to said they wouldn't cover it under warranty because I wasn't using an oem filter.

peteusmaxima, stealership did the same thing to me. needed new maf and i had a k&n drop in, service writer had to be a lil beeeyotch bout it, and write it up as the maf being damaged by the aftermarket k&n. i was like whatever so, because of that its not going to be under warranty? he was like yeah because it was "probably" caused by the oil in the filter goin thru the maf . he goes i know k&n is a great company with aftermarket products for the max but we recommend an oem filter. ended up paying around $600 . afterwards i wanted to take that damn oem filter and wrap it around his neck. and then they tried to keep my k&n filter, it only had about 6k miles on the filter so it was still clean as hell too, i went back and was like where's my filter fool? he tried to blame it on mechanic and say he left it on his toolbox, but the service writer went outside to grab it, he must have already had it in his car! this fool tried to say k&n caused my maf to go bad but yet he is gonna try and take my filter and use it? went str8 to the manager and let him know of this problem, he was outta there that evening ( homeboy got fired! he gone) btw stay away from kelly nissan in oak lawn,il for you "Illinois'ans" he he he peace
