salesman called me today and asked if I thought about the Maxima. I said yeah, and have been doing some research on prices, so he said we didn't get a chance to talk about the car price and we could do so next week. I may go there next week and see what of offer they can give me. My friend says to offer them $12k plus my '91 max.

$12k, plus/plus/plus(tax, dmv, dealer fees, etc.) plus your 1991 Maxima, if their starting asking price was $19k, is not gonna fly

Who knows what they really paid for it, but if their asking price starts at $19k, $12k + a 1991 maxima will get a from them most likely

good luck tho

What do you think I could get the car for?
at a dealer?...
it seems overpriced... i unloaded my 03 TE with bose, leather, etc and 40k miles for $16,500... better deals can be had IMO...

This dealer just got 3 6 speeds in. I was gonna buy a 6 speed from them back when i was looking but the didn't wanna move to much on price. They seem to always have them and they always seem to sell them pretty fast so maybe that's why they are tough on price....But at least the cars are low miles and always seem to be loaded...

19-19.5k for a 3 or 4 year old used car? Do the prices include a kilo of crack? They have 3 6speeds because they are unable to sell them because of the outrageous prices.

You could buy a brand new car for a few more bones.

I doubt the sell them at list price because the one i was interested in was listed @ $20,500. 6 speed black w/black leather, HLSD, loaded everything cept.navi. Got them to 18 something but the refused to go any lower telling me everyone is looking of the black on black w/hlsd and they couldn't just give the car away. Well 2 days later the car was sold. They only had it on there lot for like 2 weeks. Remember is someone wants a car bad enough they will pay the outragoues prices... . Oh yeah that car only had 20,000 miles on it and was a 03 TE....

Yes, Coastal Nissan always has them and at OUTRAGEOUS prices... I remembered looking at a few cars there and they were all out of hand... Back in November, they were asking 23k for a fully loaded 2003 TE... But I guess people buy 'em... Honestly I usually see them on the trader for a WHILE...

Someone on this thread said that if I play hardball with them, I could get that car for $12k. But if I were to give up my 3rd gen, I will def be taking out my JL components and Alpine headunit. I may go up there tomorrow and see what can happen, I will give them 30 min and if they are not at the price I am looking for, I am walking.

I did talk to someone here on the org with an '02 6spd in NJ who said they would let it go for $13k, so I'll use that and a few printouts of other 5.5 gens at cheaper prices for my negotiating power.

I made the hardball comment and it was more directed at dealers in general. If these guys don't want to face reality, go somewhere else. There are other dealers and other cars.

A black on black w/ 6speed is rare, but so is a person that wants to buy it. Remember, nissan employs thousands of people in their marketing department and they came to the conclusion that a 6speed is no more "valuable" in the marketplace than an auto. If they could have charged more for it, they would have. If color really meant any more value in the marketplace, they would charge more for those colors.

There are some dealers that would rather sell a car for 16k that they got for 12k and have it take 6 months to sell. Most dealers would rather sell a car within a month and make $500-$1000 profit on a car. As it sits on a lot, it depreciates and they have to pay interest on that, and it just takes up space.

I can't speak for others, but I would rather make a $1000 profit by selling 1 widget a month rather than making $4000 profit by selling 1 widget every 6 months.

Went to negotiate on the vehicle tonight. Shocker, the car was still on the lot. I walk in and asked for the sales kid and told him lets talk price about the nissan. So he goes and gets my info and the inventory # on the vehicle. I told him before we started talking that I have an hour to talk due to an appointment I had tonight and if the price was right, I would be talking to my credit union on Monday.

So their asking price on the car was $18,995. I said no way and threw a number at him like $14k, so he goes and gets the number $18,500. We go back and forth and the final number the sales manager gave me was $17,995 (which was the autotrader listed price). So I got out my 2 lowest printouts from autotrader in the area, a 2002 with 3k more miles for $12,500 and an '03 with 7k lower miles for $13,500. He took them to the salesmanager and came back with nothing arguing that this car was inspected. So I asked him why should I spend $4k+ on this mint green car when I can go down the road and get the same car in white for cheaper. They brought up the inspection b.s again, so I walked out.

This might interest you. At least there is no mark up.

If you are still looking for a ’02 Maxima, you can check out my car at http://www.cardomain.com/ride/568702. The car is fully loaded (meridian package, Nav with DCA9 and DCA8 CD-Roms) My Max has 92,000 highway miles on it and comes with the balance of the 100,000 mile extended gold warranty. The engine/clutch only has 24,000 miles. If you search through the TSB/recall threads, you will see that some engines had problems with the VTC sprockets. Mine was one of them. After trying to repair the problem 4 times, they just put a new engine in at 68,000 miles. It was all done by the dealer. Car is running fine now. I also had them put in a clutch at the same time since the engine was out of the car. The car also has new tires (Fuzion), and recently resurfaced rotors.

I’m looking to sell it for what I owe ($11,250). Email me if you are interested or have questions.
