Anyone with Dealer auction experience??

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of what I can expect to pay for a 5th generation at a dealer auction? I've been checking out some 2001's but might head to the auction to pick one up instead. All depends on if I can find a 6 speed though. Thanks for any input.

i work at auctions.....cars aren't at risk because a majority of them are sold with something called a "green light: buy and ride" which means you have 30 days after the purchase to return the car to the dealer. As far as examining the cars you have plenty of time if you get there early enough. and they get driven thru so they are running when you look at them and allows more time to examine. plus everyone at the auction knows what they are doing so they know what to look for in that short period of time. and as far as the price an 00-01 goes for as cheap as 6 to as much as 9. 9's pushing it though because i see more 02's go anywhere between like 9-13.

Damn....I am in the market for a 00-01, I should get one of these liscenses. Is it a pain to get a liscense and to find auctions near you (I live in eastern Mass), or is it a one time fee and then they give you a list of sites or something?

to give you an idea of what you'd pay @ dealer auction, go to nada.com under trade-in value, and that's a pretty close figure. The 2000 Max has to be in such a f***ed shape with so many miles to cost 6K, and ones that go for 9's are mint condition fully loaded.

its not easy to become a dealer to be able to buy from those auctions as you may think. Gotta register as a dealer with DMV, have the special plates, and pay an auction registration fees. If you're doing this for a living it does make sense, but just to buy one car, it is way too much BS

I got a car from a dealer auction. My friends father owned a small dealership and i was able to get a 1988 ford escort gt for 800.00 back in 1994 with only 70,000 miles on it. You can save big bucks at dealer auctions..

Agreed. I did some research here in VA, and it's pretty involved trying to get a dealer license. Not as simple as filling out some paperwork and paying a few hundred bucks. IIRC you have to have a place of business, office space, etc. Definitely not worth it for personal use.
Best bet would be to try to befriend a dealer or someone who knows a dealer.

my uncle buys and sells used cars at auctions for a living so he helped me find my AE. It was loaded, 69k and i paid about 10.5k for it (minus all the auction fees). All said and done it came out to about 12k.

Also, i dont kno how an 01 AE would compare to regular 01 models at an auction. I just know how much I paid for mine and it was a great deal compared to what private sellers and dealers wanted for a similar car. I was originally looking for a 5 spd 99 but when you're looking for something specific at an auction, such as a stick shift, it becomes extremely difficult to find what youre looking for. After a few months of searching this AE came up and it was too good to pass up. Even the color was perfect. I suggest an auction if you have someone that can get a car for you and if you have the time to wait for the right car. Good luck finding what youre looking for...

Yeah, my Uncle has a car lot and he will be traveling to the auctions for me. I do think it might take awhile since I'm looking for an 02 6 speed. They way it looks now, it might take 6 months.

U don’t need any dealer license u fool... (The Gange). Look in the Boston globe, there are plenty of dealers that can buy you a car from an auction, they just charge a fee like 200-400. The difference between buying from an auction and from a dealer is simple, a dealer wont buy/take in for trade a car which looks like it might have suspension, transmission, brake or other little or big problems. At an auction, you can buy a car that someone raped and wanted to sell quickly knowing that in a few months time it will break down. With auctions you can save a lot or a little depending on the type of car, my cousin bought a 2 year old LS 430 3 years ago for like 10K under dealership cost with 68K on the clock. The car is problem free as of now. My brother bought his first car at an auction as well, a bmw 330I and it gave him SO many problems which were out of warrenty..My advice is to buy from a dealer especially since it’s a maxima, the max you will save at an auction is 2-3K which in the long run might not be worth the risk.

Why not buy from an old lady down in Florida? No rust, great roads to drive on there.. It'll last.. The only problem is to go there and drive back, or have it shipped.

Im a manager at a dealer and go to the auctions alot. Just remember you get what you pay for. Sometimes I make out and other times I get railed. If you pay 2000 more at a dealer than at an auction its worth it.
