hey metal maxima, what kind of speaker mounts are you using for the four doors? Circuit city did a horrible job in installing my speakers and the mounts are starting to crack and I can't find anything anywhere to replace it. I saw the pix on the first page and was wondering.

Well, if you check out my deadening thread, my doors are FULLY sealed, so I took a very agressive approach to mounting my speakers. I mounted them into 3/4" MDF rings, caulked the backside of the frame to the ring, drilled the ring into the door, then slealed again with caulk. A simpler approach would simply be to use an mdf ring...if you need some made, shoot me a PM. Here's how I took the doors on:

We certainley have our work cut out for us, then.

Oh, and there might be a slight delay on the cluster mod (again)...I think I am going to to purchase a 4th gen cluster and retrofit it. I'm only speculating this right now, of course...

Alright, fellas. I have been up FOR THE PAST +36 HOURS. My work schedule has been ridiculous the past few weeks, and now it is calming down, so I took full advantage of my free day. Ok, let's begin!

Hrmmmm, what's this? Why, it's a cold-cathode! I wonder if it fits...

...yep! And now for the wire...

Ok, with that in place, it's time to start wiring the doors. I am wiring the LEDs in the door handle (you'll see ) in series, so all four need to be connected to fire up. Suffice to say, the wiring gets a little messy, but fortunatley we can tuck all of that behind the doorpanel.

Ok,now my door is just about done...I need to put the handle in later.

And a shot of the other rear door...

NOW we can se things really starting to take shape!!!

This would have been a nice shot if my hands weren't shaking from all the damn caffiene I had today.

NOW FOR SOME FUN!!!

Ok, time to see how my lights are looking!!!

First we see my FULLY AIMED control switch and the CCFL tucked away. Too bad I did not have the LED wired in the handle yet.

...and here are some shots of the rear doors WITH the LEDs in the handle. (Passenger Rear door pic is kinda blurred...well VERY blurred, sorry. )

Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn that looks good.

Do you have the interior LEDs on a switch? I only ask because years back when I had blue interior neon in my old car it got really taxing on the eyes at night when driving for an extended period of time.

Do you have any switch panel "blanks" left on your dash? You could try mounting the switch in one of those.

with that color and finish you have to make people wash their shoes before they get into your car (if you let anyone in)

wow, those speakers are so easy to change now.

dam, that whole thing looks hot man. I cant believe you did all that by yourself. You did all the dying and painting and everything?

I would think only a shop could do such a great job, not no single head, i'm amazed.

how much would u charge for a job like this

Meccanoble, considering Dan works a normal job like me ( being a fresh outta college engineer sucks ***, trust me, we get screwed on shifts) and its taken him almost 3 weeks just to install and even more time than that on prep and paint and sanding and all the little nuances, I'd think he'd charge a nice price for this, He is making pieces at request (single peices, to my knowledge hes not doing whole interiors(yet...ha!)) if you want any check the Northeastern U.S. sub board...

back on topic

damn you dan, you took the cold cathodes to a new level, I may need ur help wiring everything to a central switch if I go with cathodes in the door like you

yea, looks very time consuming and i seen how much time it has taken him, for the most part.

BTW, cant wait to see the two tone seats whenever they come your way. It will finalize the interior perfectly.

It looks great but something like that you need to see person to really appreciate it especially what with all the leds and lights its hard to capture those with the camera. Looks great though Id like to do a black and white two tone theme with some white leds.
wow, those speakers are so easy to change now.[/IMG]

Actually they are 10x harder. The MDF ring was drilled into the doorframe using self-tapping screws and the caulk is permanent. Not to mention I ran all new wire to the speakers.

I think Spencer summed it up best: "You're the freaking one-man version of West Coast Customs...on the East Coast!"

$3,500. you choose any super-fancy color you want. Keep in mind that it would have to be done piecemeal.

you wanted something to take place where the empty spot on your center piece radio/bezel/monster frankenstien fiberglass creation..in the middle right above the shifter trim nd right below the ac switches?...maybe you could put the button there..that is if you want to risk drilling a hole in the spot...like center it in the middle of the piece perfectly between the shifter trim and ac unit..what do you think?

you have truly set a benchmark for anyone interested in doing a custom interior! I'm so glad you didn't just take out the backseat and fiberglass in some sorta custom ICE ****. Your approach on the whole thing is absolutely amazing. I can't wait to see the whole project the day it is finished.

you do realize you will have a whole thread dedicated to all the pics that you can post up...
