From reading this thread the impression im gettin is that the calipers and rotors from a 6th gen will only fit a 5.5 not a regular 5th gen is that tru???

I just finished the install. It was not that much work except I couldnt figure out the stupid rear pistons. After I got that worked out I started bleeding the lines. I cant get the pedal to get stiff, I have bled and bled and bled until there isnt any air coming thru, but the pedal still drops...... any suggestions?

Oh btw I did new front calipers, then ss lines, pads and rotors front and rear.

Anybody wanna help me with my problems?? I have heard to just bleed a little more and check for bubbles. Also have heard that I could have blown the master cylinder. I dont want it to be the second thing...

I have just used sooooo much fluid, I swear there cant be anymore bubbles.

im sure that its not this, put when i did the clutch on a saturn the whole hydraulic clutch assembly was pre bled...im not sure, but maybe getting air into the system and trying to bleed it wont work because theres air in the master cyl. try bleeding the master cylinder, if that doesnt work try takin it off and bench bleeding it. if not, check for leaks in the lines, otherwise id say you probably blew a master cyl seal...

I have been searching quite a bit and I found that I used the wrong procedure. I went RR,LR,RF,LF. I read that its better to go diagonally and to unplug the battery to disable the abs systems. What is the correct way to bleed the master cylinder?

And do you know why you must unplug the ABS? It doesnt really make sense to me.... Thanks for your help

i think bleeding the master is the same as bleeding the wheels, just a different fitting. on most cars the way you did it is right, i guess our is different. unplugging the ABS doesnt make sense to me either, but whatever makes it work...

When bleeding the brakes you start with the brake furthest from the master cylinder and work inwards from there. I do not know the exact order, however I do know that this process is consistent on most cars.

Thats what I started with and I still have air in there somewhere. After extensive searching I found thats its supposed to go in a diagonal. I think I may have just been moving this air pocket front to back, and then giving up again.

I got my straight from the dealership. I work for a BMW dealership right across the street and am still wearing my uniform when I go there. They give me wholesale prices, it usually works out pretty nice. The reciept says that list price is 80 a piece for 6th gen front calipers.

Oh and Hoooper, I havent done anything to my car today... just let it sit there. It looks like the fluid level has dropped again in the reservoir. I think what happened is that I got a huge pocket of air in the master cylinder. Its slowly getting rid of itself. The pedal doesnt go alllll the way to the floor anymore, just a few inches off it.

yea the numbers are they are different for left and right.
41001-7Y005
41011-7Y005

Oh and BTW I finally figured out what was wrong with mine, I feel kinda stupid about it. I put them on the wrong sides and the fronts had a GIANT air pocket in them because of this.

Thanks... Can you do the rear too??? I am interested in an "all arround" conversion. If so, do you have part numbers for the rears???

I have no idea on the rears. I just put new rotors and pads on the back to match the fronts.

I am checking with Matt Blehm currently. Im not certain, but I dont think the size of the 6th gen rear calipers is substantially different, if at all. It may not be worth it.

I think I read that because of the design of the 6th gen independent rear suspension setup that the rear brakes wouldn't adapt easily to our A33 chassis.

*Note, that's what I "think" I remember reading a LONG while back. Don't take it for fact just yet.

I have to go check my archived email's, because I am almost possitive I had a conversation with Matt a little while ago and he said the 6th gens don't fit. It may have been about one of his upgrade kits though.

the rear calipers on the 6th gen are tiny, but the rotors are slightly larger than the 4th and 5th gens..

the big problem is that the parking brakes are completely different between the 4/5 and 6 gen. it's a huge PITA to do the conversion. I have done it with the Z32 brakes and a custom parking brake setup, but the 6th gen stuff won't fit without a bunch more custom work in modifying the wheel hubs and other cool $$$ projects.
