My baby took a spill.

I regret to inform ya'll that my Max was in an accident. I apologized, but the bumper wont fix itself. i took pics on my phone, but will upload digi pics later. i hit a bump in the road on a turn, lost traction, counter-steered about 5 times, before driving up the shoulder/bank, and mowed down 2 small trees. the car is fine from every angle but the front. the bumper was completely FUBAR, and was hanging by one studlock. i kicked it off so i could drive the little way back to civilization (the point of impact was about 2 miles off the main street). the impact of the trees dented the frame inward, crushing the radiator into the engine, and practically amputating the water hoses and such. what i dont understand is this: i lost power steering and power brakes (fan belt) before i hit the trees....so, at one point during the extreme counter-steering, the fan belt was shredded. i am sad for my car, but proud of how long i held it. it was a bumpy, wet, narrow road, and i managed to drift/counter-steer 5 times, going around a turn, before owning the plants. anywho, i would appreciate condolences cause the good lord knows how i cant survive without my Maxima.

the speed limit was 35, and i was going between 40 and 45, so it may be acceptable by authorities.

yeah, i was thinking about that today. i swerved pretty madly 5 times, none of which were less than a 45 degree angle. i slid cause of a mix of rain, and my tires are pretty worn, too. i thought i regained control after the 3rd swerve, but for some reason, my fan belt was shredded, and thats why i went up the bank, and sliced the trees, cause of no pwr steering/brakes.

i was gonna get a ****ty old import, but surprisingly, the Max has been more than i can ask of a car. it has driven me over 12k miles in less than 4 months, and has yet to have a non-accident problem.

i have just heard that the damage is irrepairable. so i have 3 options that i have thought over and cant quite choose.
a)Nissan 240SX
b)Toyota MR2, 2nd gen
c)Mazda Miata

please provide input on pros and cons. i figure i have a few weeks to prospect, but im anxious to come to a conclusion. i still dont know how much i may get from the car, as it is being 'sold' to whomever, probably to a chop shop or junkyard. i was definitely considering keeping it and selling it as parts, but i desperately need a running car now.

hows about selling me shifter console and rear drivers window switch and trim lol??? J/P srry to hear that, my boy crashed his 5th gen not too long ago and i was the passenger. i thank the Max for our survival because he rear ended one of thoe HUGOMONTOUS dump trucks at about 90 and actually survived to tell about it. Good to hear ur ok and don't sweat the car too much it can be replaced but the time spent healing an arm leg or worst losing your life isn't.

Duh, get the 240SX! This is still a Nissan forum remember. (But those new MRs do look pretty tight.)

Stay away from the Miata unless you are: a.) A member of the Village People or b.) Live in San Fransisco.

Those 2nd gen MR2's are awesome. Thats going to be a hard decsion between the MR2 and the 240SX.

so far, out of my friends, i have 2 votes for the MR2, 1 for the 240sx, and 1 for the miata, and 1 neg for the miata, but couldnt choose before the others, plus 1 for the mr2 on here, and another neg for the miata, so all together this is my tally
240SX - 1
MR2 - 3
Miata - [-1]
thx

MR2's are fun and *fairly* reliable. Many moons ago I used to have an '88 Supercharged MR2. It only had 145hp but could keep up with my brother-in-laws Eclipse GSX, these were way back in the day when Eclipses were all-wheel drive turbocharged fun machines, not the watered down secretary transports of today.

I liked the MR2 but it had major synchro problems. 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grinded like crazy! It was bad enough that I had to double clutch to drive it. I'm sure that the '91's and up had better trannys though so I think you'd be fine. I remember test driving a '93 Turbo MR2 once. THAT was a fun test drive!

You should also check around to see what normal maintenance items will cost you for the MR2. Mechanics like to charge more for the car for certain things, the worst being a radiator flush.

i was looking at the 90 to 95 range for all 3 options, cause the bodies tend to be in good condition, but engine and mechanical/electrical problems are more abundant, making the overall value drop. i found a 240 for 450, a miata for 900, and a mr2 turbo for 3k. thats only on cars.com

i have revised my search to a single model: Nissan 240sx. i wanted to stick to the nissan name, and what better than the S14. there is only 2 S14s around my area, and they both are in sh!tty condition, so if i get a good one, it will definitely stick out. the S14 is the 95-99. they dont make hatchbacks, but i would prefer the coupe anyways. i joined a 240 forums today, and found a couple hits, but nothing striking yet, so if any of you know of a 95-99 240sx for sale within 300 miles of 805, or within CA, lemme know. i put a post in the classifieds at club240.com too

thanks
