Yessir. German cars are like speical kids... they require special attention! lol
Audi will not warranty anything (well, pretty much gaurenteed) if factory authorized fluid is not used. I had to have some work done, and had to show recipts of my oil changes, and the ones not done at the dealer, had to have proof that the oil used was on VW's 502 list. (Luckily the shop I take it to is an ex-master tech, and puts the oil information and "VW 502 approved" on every recipt!)
I have seen ps racks fail because of incorrect fluid, as well as overheating due to improper coolant. It is a pain in the a** to find those fluids too because the local autozone/pep-boys/etc. shops don't carry them and they are expensive.
Anyways: back on topic:
Has anyone here used peznoil syncromesh? I've heard good things about it w/ other cars!
Word of warning about Nissan M/T Fluid
Hey guys,
Have a story to share about how I almost lost my tranny due to a M/T change.
When I first got the Maxima I did a lot of research on this site and found the the Red Line MT-90 was best for my Maxima.
I went to Jiffy Lube to get a quick oil change and asked them to check the M/T level, NOT CHANGE IT, just check it, while they changed the oil. I get it back and of course the tech drained it out and put in their stuff.
I knew something was different becuase the car shifted like butter. I asked what they put in, and they had changed it to GL-5. According to their computers, all Nissan Maxima's 00 + take GL-5 M/T fluid.
By the 7th day (it shifted like butter till the end of the week), my tranny was shifting very notchy (I was waiting for my shipment of Red Line to come in)
By the time I got my car to a mechanic (2 weeks total driving w/ GL-5, I now only go to private mechanics, where they let me hang out near my car and watch...) they drained out the M/T Fluid and it was black w/ shavings, and smelled like burning plastic...
I put the Red Line in, and everything is fine... I have to change it out again(been about 4K miles, still no notchyness), to check that all the GL-5 is completely gone...
Anyway, word to the wise, according to Jiffy Lube, Nissan's statement is that all Nissan's use GL-5 rated M/T Fluid, so watch what goes in your Maxima... and ask your mechanic what they're specifically putting in your tranny.
