With all that said, the 2002 is a better deal IMO.
I would go with the 2002 even though im not a big fan of the color. In 2002 they upgraded the engine from a 3.0 to a 3.5 and added stock HID headlights. The front grill is also removable on the 02-03 which is a plus IMO....Also, from the 2 you mention here, the 02 has a moonroof and gray interior compared to no moonroof and brown interior on the 2000.
With all that said, the 2002 is a better deal IMO.

I need help. Long story short, after either working on my foglight rewire or installing my mirror turn signals (can't remember which one it was), I blew some fuses, replaced them, and now when I lock my car with the wireless keypad, only my horn chirps, but no lights flash. Could this be a fuse, or something else? I know my hazard fuse is good because that was one of the fuses that I blew, as well as my turn signals. They are now replaced. Please help.
I think you mean the yellow capsule/Lexus style?

Hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously until it changes (3-5 secs), you can always alternate in between the 2. I hate the Maxima horn so I do the light deal. Helps me find my car in the dark too.

I just tried that trick, but the lights still do not flash. Could this be something internal?
And that fog light thread is legit! I was hoping there was some kind of comparsion, because I am stuck on what to do, capsules, or bulbs. Are the capsules hard to replace?

Yep, I held down both buttons, and it did what it was supposed to do, like the book says. I did it the first time, and the horn chirped, no lights. Did it again, no chirp, no lights. Did it again, horn chirped, no lights. So it has to be something else.
2002 SE w/95,000 miles.
Hey, I've owned my Maxima for 5 years now and recently decided instead of getting a new vehicle, I should drive this one down to it's last legs.
With that said, what are the most common problems I need to get checked as she rolls over the 100,000 mileage marker? Should I take her in to a Nissan Dealer and have them do the full inspection or are there specific things I need to look out for?
Replacements/work I've had done: Replaced all belts, cv joints, boots & struts in 2009. Regularly change oil and maintenance schedule.
How many miles can she do, guys?

Busted Sun roof
I have a 2003 maxima se. Some monster beast rock busted my sunroof 2 days ago and I'm trying to get it fixed, insurance or otherwise. Needs full glass replacement. One quote is 595 for the glass only. Got an installed price of 1095 also. Someone suggested getting the part from a junkyard and having an experienced friend replace it. Is this a viable option? Are there any other options that could cost me less than 500?
I also saw a post about leaking sunroofs. I'd been having the same prob but couldn't figure out where the leak was coming from, there was no water marks on the roof. Thought it was bad weather stripping on rear doors. Will getting the sunroof replaced stop the leaking?
Appreciate the help!

Has anyone blown a 3.5 engine? i just had a tune up and lost compression in cylinder 1. could this be the mechanics fault? also has anyone used engineandtransmissionworld.com before? or Gatorengines.com? both have engines for about 1300. Is that high? any help would be awsome thanks

No way to tell the cause unless you take it apart, I'm afraid. Are you really, really sure, or is the mechanic trying to tell you he wants to sell you an engine and the work to install it? Thinks don't go from "okay" to "really broken" during the course of a tune-up on their own, especially a cylinder going zero pressure without some other hints leading up to the event. If I drove a car of mine to a shop and it ran worse after than before, I'd certainly be asking some pointed questions, and give them just one chance to make that right.
1300 for a re-built engine is an decent price if it comes with a warranty, although it really depends on what the rebuilder does to the motor. You can get used ones for a bit less, or much less if you pull it out yourself at the wrecker's, although you run the risk of them being in the same condition as yours.
the engine is coming from Gatorengines.com it is NOT a rebuilt engine it is a takeout. it has 64000 mi on it but the warenty is 1year parts and labor. I have heard something that sounded like cylinder lash before but it stoped quickly after i would stop and check the oil. i had a "random cylinder misfire" but never had any problem codes. It was NOT making any noises when i drove it to the shop and the tech didnt hear anything when he pulled it in. as soon as it was started i heard the rattle again but this time I got codes.
HID installation
noob here....i just installed a new H4 hi/lo HID kit in my 01 maxima to replace the old H4 HID kit that i bought by mistake and installed to later realize i didnt have hi beams...but anyway, this new kit required the relay to be wired to battery and now my door chime sounds different. its sounds as if the mechanism that powers the door chime isnt getting enough juice from the battery and is making it sound slower. it sounds kinda like when ur battery is dying and thats what is worrying me. i dont wanna be driving somewhere and come back and have a dead battery. anyone else ever hear of this or have it happen to them?
okay so i just bough a set of 2000 maxima tail lights the SE's and i need a harness. now i have tried to contact DaveB and he has not responded so is there somewhere or someone i can get the harnesses from or do i have to go thru the dealership?
In case you have tried contacting DaveB by email or PM's, I think you would have much better chances of getting him if you actually call him. I've seen his phone # floating around plenty of times in the org somewhere.

mine does this as well sometimes, didn't install new headlights but i rewired my fogs and sidemarkers and added an amp & sub....Only does it sometimes though which is wierd.
2000 Max SE with automatic transmission- about 150,000 miles
With the heat in the South creeping up, I am noticing that when my tranny gets real hot, I lose my overdrive. This often happens when I on the highway for 2 hours or more. If I pull over and let the car sit, it can run for about 30 minutes before it does the same thing. Yesterday, I was able to complete a 6 hour trip by not using the a/c.
I know that the fluid needs to be changed, it is starting to turn brown, but doesn't smell burnt. Also, there is too much fluid in there, about 2 qts too much.
I know that the first thing that I need to do is drain off some of that excess fluid to prevent foaming, but I am not sure about dropping the pan and cleaning the screen. I have heard that replacing fluid in a car with this much miles on might wreck the tranny. I have put about 50,000 miles on the car and I don't know if the fluid has ever been changed.
If I do change the fluid, should I use Mobile 1 Sythetic? Or go to the dealer and buy the Nissan fluid?
Also when accelering hard, like getting on the Interstate, when I hit 3.5k on the tach and above, the engine makes a pretty horrible ticking/knocking sound. Kinda hard to discribe. Any ideas?
thanks for your reply!

just an update, my battery ended up dying today on the way to work so i guess that weird door chime means you might have a dead battery soon or that you wired something wrong and is causing the battery to discharge when parked...totally ruined my morning
I have a 02 Maxima six speed for 8 years stock. The only problems I've encountered are the boots, 2 o2 sensors and recently a pre-cat. I've replaced everything except the pre-cat because I am thinking of eliminating them once I figure out how to deal with the computer/check engine light.
2000 Maxima Question
My 2000 Maxima GXE started making a sound that worries me today. It sounds almost like when in older American made cars have power steering problems. I can hear the sound @ start up and as I'm driving at lower speeds. The belts are good, sound seems to be coming from the left side facing the car. Not sure if its the idler tension pulley? The sound just started today..... Not sure what it is, please help...... Thanks..........

Also, thanks to all of the guys on the forums, I went ahead and changed out all of the sparkplugs. What I thought was fuel injectors in the back of the engine were actually the coil packs (There are three of them inbetween the black intakes on top of the engine.) It only took 30 minutes to change them out.
Thanks again for all of the hard work that you guys have put into the forums. It has given me a lot of confidence to go out and get my hands dirty on my Max.
exhaust and HID conversion kit suggestions??
Hey, I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE (not anniversary). I just bought it, love it, and want to do some mods like a high-flow cat, new performance headers and I need a new muffler, so I thought maybe a cattman system or greddy evo-2 (expensive) I want a full performance exhaust system preferably with headers included. Any suggestions, and also living in CT would I want 'federal emission standards' or 'CA/NLEV standards' if buying a cattman full exhaust??
Also, any suggestions on a really nice, not too expensive OR too cheap HID conversion kit for both my headlights and foglights?? I REALLY do appreciate any help and input.
