That nut is a separate nut that is used as a lock nut for the tie rod end. It is evidently corroded to the tie rod end. You'll have to uses lots of Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster or WD40.

Alright, I figured that. I went and bought some PB blaster because the WD40 wasn't getting the job done. I guess I'll let that sit for a bit then go back at it. When I turn the nut I should be turning it clockwise which would be moving it away from the outer tie rod correct?

All these "quick and easy to-do" jobs manage to be a royal PITA for me and my car. Rust galore is terrible for working with.

Is there a way to tap into the manifold to get manifold vacuum pressure? I can't tap into my intake piping and am wondering whether I could splice into the evap hoses or any of the other connections on the back of the DEK.

I need to reconnect my power steering vacuum and also will need a vacuum line for a BOV in future

^^ Cold Air Intake on an auto tranny?

Transmission doesn't matter for intakes. And yes, PLENTY of people have.

There's another sensor on the intake that measures Idle Air Temperature. It's called the IAT sensor

ok that sort of awnsers my q but, where specifically is it, i finished my custom CAI today and wanted to hone in on accuracy of iat sensor, if its located on the mnifold itself then ive done a pretty good job of cooling that air dwn.

Junkyard. You'll probably have to replace the entire fascia.

you can also try to see if someone has a non-working HVAC control. Make sure you indicate you need an AUTO HVAC control, as the manual one doesn't have a screen.

AE style headlights. You can open them up and black them out or buy them for about $80 for the pair.

I have a good one for you guys. In my 03 with Bose. Ever since I purchased the vehicle, the radio display only illuminutes as the lights come on. No song display, etc. AM/FM worked well and steering wheels controls worked well, but no cd.

I bought a used radio(mine had a cracked face) and installed it. No sound. Only a heartbeat type noise from the speakers. So I re-install my other and same thing..No more sound..

Thoughts?

Checked fuses under the hood and to the left of the steering wheel. All are good.

Check fuses.

Any sign of cut/respliced wires?

It IS possible you bought a faulty unit. Why do you think they were selling in the first place?

Fuses seem ok, unless I am overlooking a location(under hood and to the left of the wheel right)

The wires have been cut before, but its odd that I had audio before. Perhaps I moved a wire.

It was a salvage yard so its very possible. Hard to find these units I have learned!!

Any kind of reset or fuse I am missing?

There are 3 fuses associated with the Bose. 10 amp fuse # 1 left of the steering wheel. This powers the head unit and the CD changer.

Fuse # 56, 15 amp, under the hood by the battery. This powers the head unit and CD changer memory.

Fuse # 67, 15 amp, under the hood by the battery. This powers the sun woofer.

There is no reset that I know of. What maybe happened is that one of the splices pulled apart when you were changing units. I'm a believer in soldering splices which would prevent something like this.

I appreciate it. Late last night I was going through the connections(which BTW I didnt do) and noticed a few weak ones.
The radio started working again so hopefully thats my only issue!!
I appreciate all the help fellas. Before I finish the install Im gonna get it ipod ready. I believe I saw a thread somewhere about this.

This might be a somewhat weird question.

Sometimes, and by sometimes i mean about 4/10 times when i shift from first to second, the shifter feels like the gear grinds, but there is no grind sound.
Is this typical? Does not happen on any other gears but second. I'm using MT-90 GL4 gear oil. And no, i do not have trouble engaging the gear, furthermore, its regardless of the car being warm or cold.

This is a 5 speed.
Thanks.

Hi guys,

I got a 2001 I30 with 137k mi on it. Every once and awhile the car develops a miss when in gear (not sure if it does it in park), but if you jump on it (say..getting onto the freeway) it'll clear out. It doesn't seem to do it cold because I had to drive >7 miles before I saw the issue (it's the wife's car, she told me about the prob but it never did it for me). The car seems low on power even when it doesn't have a miss and gas mileage is down from normal by about 1.5-2mpg. I don't have a CEL. I just changed the plugs and they were clearly original but it didn't change anything. I'm thinking O2 sensors (my car is from CA so I have 4, right?) or a coil pack. My hesitation is, from the searches I've done on here, these things would throw a code. I need some help before I just throw money at this thing. Thanks

Slim

Wait until a code is thrown, or have Autozone link to the car to see if there are any pending/hidden/stored codes. If it's general sluggishness you could try a MAF. I wouldn't change o2 sensors just for the hell of it - and bad coils are very noticeable and WILL throw a code so it's probably not your coils.

First thing is get a scan tool so you can read out codes whenever/wherever: there could be what's called a 'pending' code. The computer doesn't always light the CEL, sometimes it just holds it in memory. If the problem is infrequently intermittent and doesn't reoccur in some defined period or set of conditions it will clear the pending code.

When my coils started to go I'd get intermittent misfires like that too. Having your own scan tool is a real benefit when trying to deal with them.

hello again,
i ordered the tail lights and they came with a strip of rubber glue or something like that. Can that be used for the headlights after you bake them?

I know this question has been asked before, since i not only searched this forum and went through multiple pages, but i also search google. I sorta got an answer, but not an exact answer like i want.

I have an automatic transmission, when i'm in drive and am accelerating to 45mph i like to shift from D to 3 to accelerate faster than if i left it in drive. My question is, is that bad for my transmission? I know your not supposed to shift an automatic like a manual, but is shifting into 3 from drive bad for it?

Please no answers like "if you want to shift, get a manual" or "automatics suck" lol thanks

First Nissan

Ok guys I just bought my first Nissan Maxima, I have only ever owned Civic's and a few Stang's. Its a 02 3.5L 6MT blue in color. I love the handeling and power of it so far. Are there any major problems I should look out for besides the obviuos I have read so far.

I am planning on lowering it, maybe a lip , and a better set of shoes. But the old lady doesnt want another modded car so my options for mods have to be subtle. And Im not posting pics of a car you can see everytime you search 02 maxima on google

No. The transmission would downshift if you stomped on the gas pedal, so you doing it manually isn't any different. And if you want to control the shifting as if you had a manual trans, go ahead. Again, its you or the little box under the console. If shifting the transmission manually was so bad for it, why would they put in a shift lever with the different gear ranges?

If there is a whining noise coming from the power steering pump when the car just idles and the steering wheel not turned (if turned, the whine gets slightly louder), then its safe to assume that the pump is faulty?

Also, no leaks, yes the fluid is clean, replaced it with Dextron 3.

Hi, two questions here.

1.) Is it possible to change out the factory Oil Temperature gauge for an aftermarket digital one? Meaning, could I pop out the old one, and put the digital one in its place? I'd be using the one at this link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...84.m1436.l2649)

2.) I have a manual climate control unit, and the sliding button **** thing is missing. I know its not a big deal, but it's driving me crazy and I would really like to replace it. Does anyone know where I could find one?

1. I'm not sure if you can or not...but why do that in the first place? Adding gauges is a bit ricey if you're not boosted.

2. Junkyard or classifieds section here.
