HID questions...
Maybe its just me, or I'm missing something BIG... I dunno, but I've been a serious space cadet all day today...
On all the websites I've been reading on today it says there HID kits are for off-road/track use only and NOT DOT approved... If that is the case, what is the difference between the conversion kits and stock HID headlights???
I was thinking about making my own HID headlights... Not a sermon... Just a thought...![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Because people put hid's in headlight housings with crappy reflectors and end up blinding people, which might happen w/ a 2k-2k1 headlight because our reflectors suck... This applys to headlight housings that never came w/ or were meant for HID headlights from the factory

NHTSA made it illegal to own aftermarket HIDs on any car or even OEM HIDs retrofitted to any car. This includes installing 2k2/2k3 headlights on a 2k/2k1 because the 2k/2k1 did not have OEM HIDS.

The only way to get them legalized is to get them DOT approved.

While installing 02-03 HIDs on a 00-01 is technically not legal, it doesn't mean you will necessarily fail state safety inspections, if that's what you're concerned about.
Irish44J and icelandmaxima, both of whom have done that swap for their 00s, live in Fairfax County and have not had an issue passing state inspections with their HIDs.

HIDs in housings not made for HIDs usually glare like hell, some a$$face in my neighborhood has a lifted 2500HD Chevy Truck with HIDs. I want to break his lights with a F@cking tack hammer. Seems that the Maxima housings dont glare too bad as long as you aim them right...

And like Mizike said, Irish just replaced his stock headlights with stock HIDs from a 02-03.

Well since its payday this weekend and I've got a few spare dollars.. I found a site to get a ballast/bulb/wiring kit for $199 so I'm going to give them a try... We'll see how bad it turns out...
