Emission Test Invitation from Nissan
I just received a letter sent by the California Environmental Testing Laboratory and the Nissan Technical Center North America asking if I would let them borrow my Maxima for 5 to 7 days for a special engineering emissions test program. They would pay me $200; give me a free ‘99 or ‘00 loaner car for the period, pick up and deliver my car at home, and when done, wash, wax and fill the tank upon return of my car.
Has anyone else been involved in this? Is it worth doing?

I wouldnt..
unless it was leased or something. I mean, why do they need it that long? what will they do? will they play with the ECU? dunno, I cant see anything positive for having your car that long. wow, a free '99 for a week? why not a 2k2? thats silly, it would be a great opportunity to 'puppy-dog' you into a new car.
I really cant see what they would need besides the readout of your regular emissions test. why would they test yours when they appearently have '00's to spare as rentals?
just sounds alittle wierd to me.

Frankly, I'm interested because of a hidden agenda. My 17 year old son wants me to teach him how to drive stick shift. If I asked for a loaner with a manual transmission, I could teach him on someone else's car for a week.

I would be afraid to do it, what if they run the car hard at all the time non stop? Since you aint gonna be there, them techs are pretty nasty cuz it aint their car...

Nevermind the week or so without your ride (a '99 would not cut it unless like a Q or something), what is defined as limited mileage and where are these miles put on it? Pothole city? Where will it be kept? Some back lot with who knows what security, if any?
If you really don't care about you car, go for it and pocket the $200.00...if you do care, this seems like an awful lot of 'what if's' and possible aggravation for a couple of C-notes.

i personally wouldnt do it... who knows what they gonna do.
She was like "Ohh $200.00" If she did, I'll just say I am not interested anymore and to beat it

I got the same invitation but my car does not have Cali spec emissions as I bought it in Texas. That combined with the intake and y-pipe, they probably would have disqualified me and called the warranty department to cancel my coverage with everything else I have done they may find.
