the bad: just paid off my 2001 (well...that's good). clutch went out, alternator's dead. it drained the battery of course, my muffler has a leak, and my front brakes are shot.
the good: car is paid off. upgrading to brembo rotors-need help picking calipers. shopping for hi-flow cat, front and rear stb's, greddy exhaust, lighting upgrades. all help appreciated.

Replace clutch, alternator. Charge battery.
Unless you're into auto-xing replace muffler, rotors with oem parts.
Hold off on mods and just drive around with a big smile that its paid off.

....but that's just me....

If your battery is more than 3 years old, get a new one...an Optima Red top maybe. Hope your credit card has a low APR.

What's shoot on your front brakes? Worn pads, sticking calipers? An awesome upgrade for the front brakes are 6th Gen Oem rotor and caliper! Or power slot's frozen rotors (6th Gen) with Hawk pads or EBC green stuff pads and 6th gen Oem calipers, and if you can afford it some Goodridge G-Stop SS braided hoses..Get some! Get that altenator and new battery cause more than likely, it may now have a damaged cell or more....I'm using a gel type battery from NTB (Exide Orbital) which is smaller and lighter than that OEM monster!
Re: A hi flow cat I've had good luck with Warpspeeds welded flanged ceramic and metallic substrate cats, it a better setup than those floating flange cats and less expensive! Ceramic:$100, metallic:$185 last time I priced them....
Re: Muffler, I would stay Oem for the meantime... just address the muffler and that crushed pipe aft of the resonator! Try it find a 19" muffler if you plan on replacing it with a new non-Oem or get one from the boneyard! Try to stay away from those 14" mufflers they're loud/drony on the Maxima!
Re: Fstb shop around they are plentiful at least on the front, Stillen is the only one that I'm aware of the makes one for the rear. Buy them used if you can....
Re: lighting..., check GP thunder, I had awesome luck with my JcWhitney H4's and H3's when I had my 2000 Maxima, they were just as bright as the PIAA Extreme Whites( $15 vs $75) that were once available but no longer made, don't waste your money on the" like HID" BS...halogen will never look like HID! Phillips make some really descent hi output halogens as well....Then there's HID upgrades available as well!
Upgrades are fun and addictive so shop around for the things that make you happy..Good luck!

new clutch $150
new pads $30 bleed brakes $15 use OEM rotors they are 20 bucks each and just as good as the brembos. total:$125
jy alt $100
megan catback ebay $250
total:$625

install it all yourself and your golden.

keep making your same car payment but put it into an account. in a few years sell the max and upgrade to something really snazzy. that's what i would do.
