Just bought a 2000 Maxima SE, 5 speed. I've wanted one for a long time and got a good deal on it...but it does have a few issues. So, my question is- while the car is running and driving it will drive fine for a while then act like it is about to stall for a couple of seconds, then continue to run fine. When I push the clutch in and put it in neutral 7/10 times it stalls. I did a code check before I bought it and it said coolant temp sensor, that was the only code that appeared.
I have not done anything to the car yet- I'm going to start by replacing the sensor, changing spark plugs and doing a full tune up....I'm not sure after that what would cause the issue. The car does have a lot of miles, but I'm not sure how many since the ODO does not work. Any ideas??

Welcome to the forums! I have an 03 but from what I've read on here, that could be your MAF. I had the issue (albeit not as frequent) and I replaced my maf with the 2001 unit for $75 and the car hasnt stalled once since (when I would push the clutch in on a roll RPMs would drop low and sputter and sometimes stall). It did take a few drives for the car to run 100% but I'm glad I swapped it out.
My car did not have an SES light. The first time it stalled was when I was driving it home after I bought it. I went to shift to 6th and it took longer than it should have (getting used to driving manual again) and it died. I didnt even notice it sputter and I was not happy (drifting to the side of the road at 60 miles an hour with the car off sucks). It certainly wasnt as frequent as it is for you but it did sometimes sputter and the oil light would flicker and it would recover and other times it would just stall. I hope you're able to figure it out!

I am on my 4th max.when i joined the site i had a 98 gle custom rims and sound.i sold it with 202,000 so they def last.I recently purchased a 2000 max 5 speed 86,000 miles and i am loving it.This time i plan to do performance mods So please feel free to give suggustions.i did upgrade headlights but i am not impressed i have pics.i also did a touchscreen dvd.I am lookin for a stillen front lip and rear window spoiler, gona do a light tint hids in the fogs anyone selling or know what works best with factory fogs?
I am a new Maxima owner as of today. I just purchased a 2002 with a six speed and 129,000 miles for 5800. Interior is pristine and exterior needs very little work. I've been reading the postings for several hours and am already getting a few ideas for some mods.
Hey everyone. I bought my Max back in Oct.('02, SE, 6sp) and have been kind of wandering around in here a little bit but still haven't been able to spend the time online to actually get all the post I need & find the answers to the questions I have. I bought the car in october and have yet to put 100 miles on it because Ive just been spending so much time at work. The good side of this is that I am making some extra dollars to make a couple mods. What I'm wanting to do is add a VERY conservative drop to it as well as a few bang for buck engine and suspension mods. This car is all stock and I want to get rid of the "floaty" feeling. I considered Tokico Illuminas with Eibach springs but I'm afraid that may be overkill for what I am after. I really haven't found enough reviews on entry level setups to kind of know which way to go. can any of you more experienced guys help with this. I only want to drop around an inch and loose the floaties.
What's good maxima.org!? Proud new owner here, 2000 gxe bought for $4700 on Superbowl Sunday! woot, woot! The car has 79500 miles and some change on it. I was wondering if there's anything that needs replacing soon since 80k is coming up, maybe MAF sensor, ignition coils and O2 sensor since it seems like this model of Maxima has issues with those components.
^^Congrats!!
None of the above parts need to be changed until they exhibit symptoms. They're not really parts that require proactive replacement.
Other things like PCV, belts, plugs, filters...those are the things to start with.

All righty everyone! Still don't have enough posts to start my own thread, but I'll work on it. Big news though! Got my 2001 20th Ann. Maxima today! 101K on the clock. Black with black leather, 5-speed, and every single option (unless you could option Nav on the 20th Ann's??) Made a 200 mile run back from Central Oregon with her today and she performed beautifully. I have 5/8th of a tank left at 200 miles, so I will be really interested to see what kind of mileage she is getting, but I'm thinking it will be over 25 on this tank. I gotta say, this is my first Maxima ever and I've always wanted one and I am not disappointed. Not by any means the fastest car I've ever had, but it does pull really good (especially in 3rd) and you can really feel what I'm guessing are those intake runners opening around maybe 5K. It's almost like VTEC the way the car surges all of a sudden with extra power. Anyway, I got home with it and my wife and son came out and both ended up with BIG smiles on their faces. My 5 year old son only complained that the RPM's didn't go high enough... He liked my previous GSR that would rev to 8 grand...lol. I've got another car guru in the making.
Paid 6000 even for her.

hey everyone! i been looking around the site for a few months now, but not really been posting a whole lot. been busy with school. anyways, i got a 01 SE, bought it in July 2011 with 62K. i go to school about 50 miles away and i commute every day, so ive added a few miles recently. im looking forward to doing a few mods, exhause, intake, sus, and a few others. Check out the pics and let me know what you think! happy modding
just got a 2000 maxima se 5speed fully loded, with just a little rust {im from ny} with 120k for $2800$ i love this car so far, and nissan is my favrote company, this is my 6th nissan to date. but i only own 2 right now a 95 240sx - summer/drift car, and now this max for a dd
Just picked up a 2002 White SE with 123000 miles for 5700. Car is fully loaded and flawless. Loving it so far but the full exhaust has some annoying drone at highway speeds! I think its mostly my headers causing this. Anyone want a full greddy catback?? lol
for free ill take it lol, they make silencers for em if its too loud for you
Hey Everyone!
I just picked up my 2001 SE auto on Saturday! It has 132K and rides ever so smooth! Has every option, I fell in love first time driving her! The only things needed are front brake pads and I am getting the trans drained and refilled this Saturday. Aside from that she's a beauty! I will post pics soon.

I sold my 2000 Altima GLE on monday that had 202,000 miles on it and ran like a champ.
After a week I bought a local 03 Maxima from a private seller with 152k Miles and an auto tranny. It was maintained by owners husband with Synthetic Oil every 3k Miles. It had aftermarket black leather installed. Only has 5 hail dings and one door with a top coat issue. Runs like a new car. It only needs the tires rotated and new front brakes. But i will getting 4 new pads using the owners current lifetime warranty on them. It has a new battery and alternator, front oil seal, and oil pan gasket. I will post a couple of pics later in a new post in the 5th gen area. Got it for $4900 and already ordered H&R springs for it and am eyeballing intakes! I will most likely pull the heads and tails apart to paint the housings and smoke the side markers for quick and cheap appearance change. Also, I will attempt my first window tint on this vehicle. Pretty confident I can do it from experience with vinyl laying and a quick step by step by a friend tinter. I want a header/ypipe/catback combo next, then piggy back tune it all together. Rim choice might be the a34 nismo's or g35 sport sedan rims. Suspension button up items like sways, STB, LCA, shock/struts are a must as well.
Anyways, thanks for being here and hope to have a long journey with the 5th gen forum!

Upgrading from 4th gen
hey guys,
Just picked up a 2003 SE 6mt. Black with the gray cloth. It has had the short shift mod done and has 2001 SE tails on it. Now I am looking forward to getting a Berk SRI ( I think that's the name). I will do the fog rewire and I definitely wanna upgrade the sound. My 4th gen BOSE is so much better sounding. . .

Greetings from Finland!
I just picked up a 2001 Euro spec Maxima with 100K miles on the clock. I love how smoothly the engine runs. Personally I like the US bumpers and chubby wheel arches better, but this is how we got the 5gen here. I think it looks like Infiniti in the States.
I was excited to find out about this great and active forum of Maxima enthusiasts. I don't think there are too many technical differences between my car and US spec models, and I already found a solution to the strange buzzing sound - thanks to this forum - and disconnected the electronic motor mount cable.
The car is completely stock and the first thing I need to update is the original suspension with new shocks and lowering springs. It's winter at the moment and the car is running on studded tires on original 16" alloys, but I'm already looking for a summer setup of 18's. Not sure I need any other mods, well despite of sound system update :-)

Wanted to introduce myself. I'm Gaven, and I recently purchased an 03' SE 4AT Titanium Edition in what I believe is Grey Lustre (?) on black leather. Car has 132k miles while the motor has 60k. I absolutely love the car. I came from a long history of running Honda/Acura, and decided to try something different. I'm glad I did. No major plans for her, simple suspension, 18"wheels/tires, maybe some performance brakes, Stillen intake, and nice catback. She's my dd so I want to keep her simple and reliable. LED gauge bulbs are next on the list! Glad to be here.

Engine bay after I changed the plugs and did a complete detail on it (it was filthy!)

New to Maxima's!
Hello everyone... Just got our first Max(very excited) yesterday and am in love with it already! Paid $3800, she's a 00 Gxe, auto, 109k & clean. It came with a stainless Tsudo cat-back which my wife hates, but we'll see how it goes. Heres a pic right before we smacked plates on & drove off like I stole it!

As far as the engine/suspension/tranny and wheels go - all the parts are the same. It's going to be hard for you to find some different springs/struts to lower it in Europe, but I'm sure some options are available.
Sound system is most probably Bose (often called Blose on here) isn't that great and subwoofer is known with frequent cutouts.
Good luck with your car! All the information for it can be found in Infinity I30/I35 section of this forum.
follow a simple rule - maintenance before mods.
after that follow your passion - what do you want to do? looks or performance first? after that so some search on here and do the work on your own (that the way you get to know your car
)
As far as the most popular mods go - intake/exhaust/suspension and music after that (at least for me)

Just bought my first Maxima!
I have owned quite a few cars over the years and tend to buy/sell every 2-3 years.
Most of my cars have been VW/Audi products (4 GTI's).
One of the deciding factors to pick the Max was the community... I have been on VWVortex for 7 years and have over 7k posts. Honestly I could never own a VW outside of warranty without a great community.
The car I bought:
2001 Maxima SE 5MT w/ 69k miles
One owner (in his 60's)... non-smoker... garaged... dealer serviced.
This weekend I fixed the drivers side front suspension clunk with some Moog Endlinks! Thanks to Maxima.org!
Future Plans: Bi-Xenon Retrofit, LED Cluster Upgrade, repair drivers seat bolster, remove pinstripe and tint the car. So far that's all but as always subject to change.
Some quick pics I snapped:

My last GTI:
