That situation doesn't sound very avoidable whether you're texting or not.

 

Always leave a car length between yourself and the car in front of you. That way you can create space behind you if you need it because of texter.

And there's always the horn. Gotta love the horn.

Apparently it's like a polymer powder that gets put into the tires and you don't have to do weights but I've never heard of it so I don't know how effective it is.
