They didn't, I paid diagnoses and an hour labor that all - no parts. I'm not saying that those are the clamps, I think there happen to be more - I am just not sure where.

The whole thing sounds fishy to me too.

There are four clamps total around the pump and assembly. Two on the inside of the fuel assembly which contains the pump and two on the outside of the gas tank. All four of these clamps are under pressure so if one of them was "loose" it would have popped off, not just leaked. Maybe one of the inside ones popped off, but if that was the case they would have needed to replace your fuel assembly, not the fuel pump. Maybe they broke one of the connections in the process of replacing your fuel pump, but that still doesn't explain the original issue.

I'm not buying fuel pump/clamps theory - you heard pump turning off after building up pressure. Engine would've given you few cycles, it wouldn't be dead-dead as it was.

I hope, though, they found and fixed the actual problem even without telling the truth so you can enjoy your car.

Seems strange, but without knowing the Fuel pump arrangement better I cannot say this isn't possible.

it's not uncommon to have no odour, no leaks, and still pull in air which causes the engine to stall/not run, but that is normally an intermittent issue, or the car would chug a bit and TRY to start.

Again, not sure of the setup, but I DO know that you can be pulling air in from a bad fitting, clamp, etc and have no odour or leaking evident. Either way, let's cross our fingers that it was the problem, because you got yourself one heck of a deal from that dealer, and that's a rare thing.

i think it's the starter switch on the opposite side of the key in the steering column. easy fix and none of the other guesses work for me.
