Drivetrain Project
Drivetrain Project
I was going to buy wheels/tires but i decided to invest in upgrading/repairing my drivetrain. Clutch slips and stinks when i change gears at High RPM. (5500RPM+). I am sure i will get the Fidanza/Exedy (stage1) combo. Anything else you would recommend replacing while doing this? and also deals? Got quote below from Prostreet.
5 qts of Redline? The 6spd only uses 2.5 how much does the 5spd take? You can also look at the JWT flywheel. It's the same as the Fidanza with a different label and can sometimes be found cheaper. Don't forget your throwout bearing. Might also be a good time to change those motor mounts out for some ES mounts.
the mechanic said that it would be a good idea to replace the seal. I am assuming that it would be this part?

I just did all of this - and upper oil pan leak fix.
The 5spd takes between 4 and 5 quarts.
The clutch should come with a new throwout bearing. It should also come with a new pilot bearing. Don't waste your time changing the pilot bearing - our cars don't use it.
Why only replace one axle seal? Do both.
Are your bearings bad? If not I wouldn't bother replacing them. You never know when you are going to create a problem. I had to replace my passenger side and it turned out that the Timken bearing I got was bad. Had to do it twice.
If you are still going to replace the bearings and pull off the knuckle, I would look at the lower control arms bushings and ball joints. You may want to replace those.
How old are the inner and outer tie rods? These can both be a pain in the *** to change but if they are old, this may be the time to do them.
