O2 Simulator to the Rescue

O2 Simulator to the Rescue
So my CEL came on about a month ago. Every modified exhaust owner's friends, P0138 & P0157. First thing that came to mind was my o2 sim finally (after 5 years) crapped out. So decided to take a look at it.
But forgot where I hid it.
Minor surgery revealed the location after following some crimping.
Come to find rust! Totally forgot about it when I power-washed. Lesson learned.
Installed a new one, shrink wrapped it, fiberglass taped it, and electrical taped it (just in case) and installed it in a place that's a little more obvious this time. Codes are now gone and I can now go pass emissions again. Just in time.
Anyone else thoroughly enjoy the power of these little things?

I went for an O2 sim over anti-foulers because I wanted to keep it as clean looking as possible. I de-pinned the plugs on the front of the motor to splice the sim in there and ran the wiring back to under the dash through the grommet behind the driver's side splash shield. This keeps the sim out of the elements and the results look completely stock if you don't recognize the Warpspeed y-pipe.

Do a search and you'll find the thread. You basically splice it in some wiring that lays in front of the intake manifold. I would never consider myself that deft at car repairs/ upgrades, and this only took me 45 minutes on a very, very cold day.

Instead of creating another thread, figured this was as good a place as any to post.
Got Cattman headers/Y with my secondaries tucked under the engine cover. I don't really care if I have an SES light. I do from time to time - goes on and off. More a concern my SES bulb will blow and I'll have to replace it.
So, picked up a couple O2 sims with heater circuit. The instructions suggest installing the sim with the heater circuit against a good heat sink to draw heat away - otherwise risk the circuit overheating and failing - makes sense. So I fabbed up both sims into an aluminum casing from an old DDM HID kit and used some arctic silver paste. I plan to wire the sims into a pair of old oem harnesses cut from the secondaries - effectively making them "plug and play!"
Here is my question:
The sim instructions state to NOT wire the heater circuit to the factory wiring. It does not state why. Surely the circuit doesn't pull more current than the stock setup!? Looking for feedback, anyone else just wire everything up to the stock harness? OR
Did you run a new power wire? OR
Maybe wire it into factory wiring and just add a fuse to the power wire for the heater circuit?
All input is appreciated from others who have installed sims.

O2 Sim
Personally I will not install 02 sim, some of them are defective. I dont want to cut and mess up the OEM wiring instead I install 02 nonfouler to the two secondary 02 sensor simple and straight forward.

Foulers may work - likely actually. No good reason for me to do one over the other. Antifoulers definately cheaper but, require holes cut into Cattman and bung welded. Requires placement of antifoulers at a point where it doesn't hit/snag/damage the O2 sensor.
Sims are more easily tucked and keep the exhaust looking clean. Both effectively accomplish the same thing, assuming you get one that sims the heater circuit. Otherwise I don't see the point, as you would have to keep the secondaries to avoid the heater circuit SES light.

O2 sim will only last for few years, you need to replace it. You can use a variety of 02 nonfouler like , elbow for tight area.
I believed you are right, you already installed it go for it, just buy a spare sim. By the way you are lucky for the cattman headers, I was able to get a brand new cattman y pipe, installed on my 02 maxima se. By next week I will gut both secondary pre cat. Excellent combination on your set up is the Megans exhaust catback but its hard to find it like cattman for our vehicle.
