front mount intercooler with CAI?

Has anyone thought of incorporating a front mount intercooler with a CAI? Depending on the style of intercooler you could have the air intake in the same general area or ice to the passenger side? Would it even be worth it?

Are you talking about a non turbo setup?

No matter what do, or how you plumbed it, you could never get below ambient.........so, therefore.....No......its a bad idea. Hell, they are almost useless on supercharged or turbocharged applications now with E85, and or water injection.

WTF is right. An intercooler isn't really a cooler. The reason an intercooler cools is because the air coming into it (from a turbo) is hot and and the intercooler brings it closer to ambient temp.

In theory, you could ice an intercooler to get it to cool below ambient temp but I doubt you'd see any measurable benefit. Besides, on a hot day it would melt fast and on a cold day it wouldn't be needed. There's also no room for an intercooler, ice and an insulated box to hold the ice.

Even if you did add this it would be A huge loss in power unless your at top speeds only, second people will think you have turbo until they get close and laugh at you. Third you might get noticed by somebody with some real power lol and get smoked on....don't.

Shh, Maxima is all real power. Don't make us think otherwise.

While I'm not an expert, I think with something like a CAI, at least on our cars, an intercooler would make little sense given the other options to get cold air,

I had been thinking about the whole "Injen Warm Intake" thing recently (since I have one), and I think the best option for real cold air for the intake would be to do the battery relocation mod so you can fit the intake into the corner within the bumper. I also noticed that the NWP spacer kit helps with heat in the intake manifold a lot. Of course I know that's the intention, but it's worth noting that it helps prevent the CAI from becoming a giant heat tube. I haven't moved the pipe from the regular location, and the thing only gets a little warm after a hard drive, in the area nearest the motor.

I tried them all, short intake till the summer then stock one goes back, other wise its heat soak and power loss in the summer. this might help also.

Thanks! Finally I know where to get elbow grease and blinker fluid, now of you can find somewhere to get some patience for simple ideas and questions, so until then I apparently should keep any questions or ideas to myself. Truly thank you to those who have had answered back with actual reasons why this won't work.

Don't be discouraged. This can be a rough crowd but once you get up to speed you'll learn a lot. They'll give you some hell but they won't turn their back on you.

Here's a few facts you might want to 'chew on';

1) The OEM airbox/snorkel setup is good for >250WHP & the best power at all engine operating conditions.
2) It's a true CAI that draws cold air from in front of the radiator.
3) Plastic is less prone to heat-soak (the real enemy) than metal.
4) Research & Dyno tests prove Cone filters are no more effective than panel filters & can cause turbulence that actually REDUCES power!
5) A poorly designed aftermarket intake can also reduce power.

So with this info given, here's a suggestion for a good intake setup;

1) Sitck w/ the OEM airbox/snorkel setup.
2) Find a G35 'RevUp' airbox & put the 'RevUp' velocity stack on the OEM airbox.
3) Improve airflow coming in from the grill to the snorkel.

Here's a cheap, simple & effective 'gadget' that works well to reduce heat-soak & intake temps. https://maxima.org/forums/5th-genera...01-maxima.html Proven to lower intake temp ~7deg. overall. That equates to a calculated ~2WHP increase, NA w/o any other 'mods'.
