It sounds like the engine is starting to me. However, it does not sound like it is running on all 6 cylinders.

In the video, did you turn the engine off or did it die by itself?

Jesus that is NOT running on all 6 cylinders. Did you change plugs before installing new engine? Did you use the old coils that were on the engine? This one is stupid but did you remember to connect the rear mini harness for Bank 1?

Well guys the problem was the crank not the engine because when it stared (rarely) it worked flawlessly. I found the problem tho. We installed the flywheel wrong sonthe crank timing was off. The automatic engine doesnt have a pin coming out so we didnt notice there was a right way to i stall the flywheel car is running great now! Thanks for all you input tho!

Glad you got it sorted out! Little things like that can be a huge pain. Did a 455 swap into a '77 Cutlass I used to have. Got it in, all hooked up, turned the key. Nothing. Not a damn thing. I was an assistant manager with Jack in the Box at the time and since it was already 8 pm (we pulled the 455 from a Delta 88 I'd bought and the 350 out of the Cutlass and did the swap in one day) and I was working graveyard I had to clean up and get into work on almost no sleep.

Get home in the morning, poking around under the car and I saw a single wire hanging down-forgotten to hook it up to the starter solenoid. Connected it, car started up immediately. One stupid wire.

Do you remember how far out of position you were (# of holes on crank flange)?

I figure you must have been off by 2 or more for it to run like that.

And what exactly do you line up the flywheel with on the automatic engine's crankshaft? I thought they all had a dowel pin (auto and manual).

Finally,

If you used a factory Dual Mass Flywheel, what does the alignment hole look like on the crankshaft side of the flywheel? (assuming you put this engine in a six speed car).

Looking for answers to some problems of my own.

Thats not the car running but trying to crank im holding the key trying to make it start... and we didnt check the position we had it because we were in a hurry. Both engines do have a dowel pin just the manual one sticks out and the automatic doesnt so you line up the flywhee where the dowel pin would be which you know because its the only hole on the flywheel that different. The crankshaft side has an automatic pilot bearing so you have to take it out if youw want to be able to use the clutch alignment tool... if you take it out though you will need a manual pilot bearing.

I was actually asking about the back side of the flywheel itself. What does the hole look like that lines up with the dowel? I know on the LUK aftermarket ones it has an insert with an elongated hole.

Do you know what it looks like on the OEM Flywheel?
