So adding to the list of problems with my car i-35 one of my top heater core tubes broke half way off. So I wedged a small peice of hard cardboard like material into the opening and clamped the hose down in order to have heat. I did get an elbow just in case that does not hold and it does leak so I have to add coolant/water every other day to the radiator. Are there replacement heater core tubes that can be installed without having to remove everything in the car to install them?
Those tubes are replaceable, but they are a bit of a pita. You have to work from inside the car on the passenger side. You do have to remove stuff to get to the heater core. I've never done it but I have read threads in the 4th gen section by people who have.

Update: Well its getting cool again and now im going to need heat, I put off replacing the heater core because it was only one of the tubes the sort of broke off. Now id like to replace it. Is there a Process to remove the heater core without having to remove the entire dash? Ive tried at a salvage yard and still could not get the thing out without tearing the whole car apart, so its got to be an easier way.
The information is for 4th gen cars, but the 5th gen is very similar. You have to remove the a/c evaporator core to remove the heater core. But if all you need to do is replace the plastic pipes, that can be done without removing the heater core.

Thanks alot man my crazy phone wouldnt let me access the link, but i can see it on my laptop lol. I thought this whole time that you had to remove the dash on 5th gens to get to the heater core which would require hours lol and lots of good memory, As i removed one on my 3rd gen max which took almost a day. But went to the salvage yard today and removed the heater core(practice on a junk car) by only removing the glove box and the evaporator!!! Had to unscrew the tubes to clear the heater core from the climate control box. Anything beats having to remove the dash in these cars.
I pulled the dash on my 4th gen and it took me a couple of hours the first time, going slowly and documenting. The next time I had a friend helping me (who had never done this) and with him on one side of the car and me on the other, it was less than half an hour.
I never pulled the dash on my 5th gen, but every time I did something under there, it was so similar to the 4th gen. I had a 3rd gen and it was a different animal.
Well it's been almost 3 years of having mediocre heat problems and I finally bypassed the heater core altogether last winter. I was afraid to tackle the heater core replacement on this car myself thinking that the dash had to be removed. So I had the core but didn't install it and was about to pay a shop $200 to do it. Thanks to a few YouTube videos and advice from dennis: I was able to tackle the job. In a few hours. Only had trouble putting the evap and blower assembly back together in the right area. The old one was full of stop leak smh.
Removal process was fun and easy
Now the difference between the 4th gen and 5th gen is that you can pull the evap box out seperatly by unscrewing 4 screws. The 5th gen is not as simple because the evap and the blower motor unit are attached togather and cannot be separated. Just thought id give someone a heads up because i thought both 4th and 5th gen were the same setup so it took me a little longer to reinstall things.
Sorry to bother you but how exactly did you sneak the evap box out? I see you have the airbag out, does that help with clearance? I'm replacing my evaporator and expansion valve soon and this is the only correct info I have found. Not the same as 4th, but alldata states only 1.6 hrs.

To get the evap box out I had to basically unbolt everything to the right of the heater core. I also had to drain the system of freon, I accidentaly let it out when i unbolted the 2 10mm bolts on the firewall. I removed the air bag to have more room, its really easy, although id recommend removing the battery cables before you do.
