HID to Halogen?

Is this possible to do? One of my headlights went out and I think it may be the HID ballast. Either way, the HID bulbs are also too expensive and I would like to use halogen instead. Any help would be much appreciated.

2003 Maxima

Edit: Is it possible to put a low beam halogen bulb where the high beam bulbs are located? Or is it just the angle of the bulb and not actually a low beam bulb?

Is it possible, yes but that would be more or less a science project that is not worth going IMO. I would not suggest using your high beam as low beam either since the light projection is different as you will be blinding others. To do what you want to do, you would need to fab or cut off the halogen bulb base from other known halogen lights and replace the OE HID bulb base with it.

Isolate the problem and see if it is the ballast, look for ebay used one if you can. If the issue is the bulb, they are plenty of aftermarket ones that are cheap at Ebay too.

IF it is your ballast/or rectifier wiring and you can't find it at Ebay, I might have one that I can sell you.

Thanks for the response. What do you think about those HID kits on ebay? It's about $30 for the whole kit.

just get a ballast ? i think u are going to do more work jumping hoops changing everything to just avoid replacing what went out originally

if one is out u only need one. if u change the type of lighting you have to do both? if cost is such an issue. then drive with one light.

these cars are old, you can find OEM ballast on ebay under $40 , how do u know its ballast and not bulb itself? u can get HID bulbs only for your HID headlights cheap.

I understand, but the whole kit comes with two bulbs and two ballasts plus all the wiring. I would be paying just as much for the bulbs alone. Not necessarily saying I need the ballasts, but for $30 I figured it would be good just to get the kit.

No, I'm not going to just drive around with one light, but if I can get a whole kit for the price of one factory ballast...

Normally it's the bulbs that go. Take the good bulb and move it to the bad headlight to see if lights. If it does, buy 2 bulbs and call it a day.

this ! diagnos the problem before buying parts you dont need. or changing things you don't need to change.

also there has to be places where you can buy HID bulbs alone. and if its your ballast again , ebay, our cars are old.

To convert to halogen the right way you would need 00-01 lights, plugs and wiring diagram. It's not plug and play. 02-03 leave the low beam on when the high beams are on. The 00-01 run them separately/independently.
