Besides the normal standard list of a 60k duration tune up ( plugs, belts, fluids, filters) would you guys have any suggestions for a tune up at 250k miles? i am debating to just do the minumum or do some extra things. I plan to keep the car going hopefully for another 50k-60k if all goes well but understand i am kinda on borrowed time per say.

I am on stock original engine mounts from 2002, and in the past year or so when accelerating there is delay from pedal pressing to moving, I have never had before, is that just old plugs or old original engine mounts? if mounts how bad is it for a shop to replace?
Should I have my trusted mecahinc mess w the throttle body cleaning? (he should know the sensitivty of 5.5 gen throttle)
My rear illumina shocks are questionable age and shape, got 162k miles on them, at it seems they have slowly sagged past 2 years since i started rubbing when i never got before. and i have some clunks up front when turning and accelerating at the same time but front illuminas replaced 70k ago.
i think the axel back (b-pipe) and or muffler is leaking...sighh ( i get about 3 years out of exhaust components in the north east before rotting or getting big holes)
Also debating doing fuel filter for a 3rd time..... but other than that want to keep it simple... cant think of anything else that is worth while for the postition I am in. and cant decide if mounts are even worth it at this point since i am so used to the original mounts now.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
My 2000 started to fall apart around 250k.
Alternator, ps hose, fans, coils, water pump. oil leaks.
...Stock fuel filter though.

If you want replace all that before it happens or just do it as it happens.
Shocks maybe. They should be nice and firm when you hit bumps.
Throttle body cleaning just do that if your idle seems weird. It's easy enough to do though.

 

I'm at 184k and just did valve covers, spark plugs, coil packs, tranny drain and fill, oil change maf clean, throttle body clean, and air filter change. Next is brake fluid when I go big brake all around.

 

The reality is that our car isn’t worth selling anymore, so the option is either do the very minimum to keep it running and safe and junk it when it is time or refresh it and spend time and money rebuilding it to better than minimum.

if the engine is running strong and not dripping like crazy, I would just do the brake, fluids, and other consumable and check for worn out ball joints, tie rod.

thanks everyone, i agree, that's all im gonna do ! nothing but standard isue with fluids belts sparks, and anything else beyond that let my trusted mechanic suggest it. and if not leave it alone, keep it to a minimum .

i am having a hard time accepting there will be an end to this car , cant even think about whats next holding on to this one so much.

 

^keep an eye on your coolant levels because at about 200k i did a oil analysis
Something turned up in the oil, not much. They suggested that it was probably coolant. Not enough to be obvious but changed the water pump
and next analysis turned up clean. i think it was phosphate.

like i said your around the mileage where everything will sorta just wear out, like water pump, alternator. trans. harmonic dampner.
any oil in the spark plug tubes? Just check common problems. They all happened to me already.
motors are very well built though and should last basically for ev ver.


another thing. two of calipers where dragging. Couldn't really tell driving but with a heat gun they where way hotter then the others.
remanned calipers fixed that.

 

water pump and check timing chains and guides, valve cover gaskets, check the tranny. man if i could go back in time i'd have changed tranny fluid and installed the HD2 shift kit. i replaced the tranny cooler lines and they were rotting and flaking apart, change the PS hose with a metal one, all aluminum rad w/ silicone hoses, got braided brake hoses. make a sub frame collar washer mod. treat the inside of the qaurter panels with a ling stick / tube and salt terminator or chain saw bar oil. grounding kit/mod, engine mounts, struts/springs make akebono pads etc etc
