Dreaded ECU burnt chip
Dreaded ECU burnt chip
Good evening.
So I troubleshot my 2001 Nissan Maxima to find out I have the normal burnt chip from the Iacv. So I sent it off to Upfix to get the chip replaced and they sent it back and seemed it unrepairable, but it actually came back in worse condition then when I sent it. Burnt circuit traces and all, they demolished it.
I searched for a replacement and ordered one from flagship 1, they took all my information and money and finally two weeks later I get a glass blasted ECU. During unboxing I heard a familiar rattle inside, so I opened it and low and behold the same chip is burnt in this ECU. So I package it up and send it back to them, but right away they tell me I voided their warranty by opening it to see what was rattling around and won't help me what ever.
So I still have a broken car and no working ECU. Yes it will run and drive with the old tried to repair one but not super well.
What the hell does a person do?

I had nearly the same issue when my ECU showed signs of heat damage inside. Before replacing anything, I tested the board connections using a wet bench setup at work, and it really helped confirm which traces were cooked. If you’ve got access to that kind of setup, it can save you a lot of time before pulling parts.
