I was on amazon the other day looking up stuff for my daughter when all of a sudden i see an all metal throw out bearing on the side which was listed as being for 96-99 I30, 02-06 3.5 Altima, and 85 - 06 maxima. I don't trust amazon stuff so i kept looking around online for throw out bearings available for older Maximas and Nissans. one that I found on eBay is the SKF VKC3581 which is discontinued but I found a few and purchased one. I also looked up different generations of Maximas on Rockauto. I found the NSK 62TKM3301 which they have listed as being OEM for the 85-91 Maxima.
SKF VKC3581 discontinued but some old stock can be found online
plastic valve covers and intake manifolds is where I draw the line. Nissan actually discontinued selling the OEM throw out bearing along with other parts for the 6 speed manual.
Agreed. Plastic intake is actually good for IAT's. But not what I want in a part that requires, you know, separating the engine and transmission to replace!
I received the NSK62TKM3301 I ordered from Rockauto and the backing as well as the inner sleeve is all metal. it came directly from NSK and they really took great care in shipping it out.

the SKF VKC3581 came in today, looks pretty good and is made in Japan. I'll be installing the NSK since they are readily available. I'm curious to see how well the NSK will hold up.

the NSK just started chirping yesterday. but when i just touch the clutch pedal it goes away. I was better of with the ACT that has the plastic backing, I got a good 38,000 miles out of that while the 6 puck lasted...
I ended up doing some adjusting to the clutch pedal, mainly screwing the upper clutch swith all the way in and adding cushion to the pedal with 3/4" rubber hose pieces..
What does the pedal have to do with the throw out bearing
it keeps constant pressure on the bearing so it doesnt squeak.
properly lubing things and replacing the (likely worn out) ball stud and fork would be the correct fix. this means the bearing is spinning at engine rpm at all times so itll smoke itself. but it does keep things tight so they cant squeak.
the squeeking wasn't from the throw out bearing. it's from the slave cylindr pin rubbing on the fork.
the ball stud and fork were new but the slave cylinder pin was loose against the fork even after bleeding the clutch. it's not puttign pressure on the throw out bearing, just a tiny bit where the slave cylinder pin meets the fork.
