Looking for 2 TSBs!
I searched the stickies but was unable to find the following 2 TSBs for the 2001 Maxima:
From the NHTSA website:
1. Make: NISSAN Model: MAXIMA Year: 2001
Service Bulletin Number: NTB01010 Bulletin Sequence Number: 187 Date of Bulletin: 02/01
NHTSA Item Number: SB618795
Component: ENGINE
Summary:
SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A BUZZING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AFTER THE IGNITION KEY IS TURNED OFF. *TT
2. Make: NISSAN Model: MAXIMA Year: 2001
Service Bulletin Number: NTB01061 Bulletin Sequence Number: 624 Date of Bulletin: 09/01
NHTSA Item Number: SB624004
Component: ENGINE
Summary:
SUBJECT PERTAINING TO ENGINE SURGE DURING DRIVING.*JB
The engine surge is the one that I have been noticing more and more on my 2001 Maxima with 20,000 miles. I would appreciate any detailed information on the TSBs or copies of the actual TSBs if anyone has them. Thanks in advance.

The engine surge that I notice occurs as I am driving 40-50 mph (like on backroads)on a level straight roadway. The car is an automatic and after the auto transmission has correctly upshifted through the gears, all of the sudden, I sometimes feel the car pull or surge forward. I have watched the tachometer to ensure that the transmission itself if not shifting. This can occur even after I have been driving a constant speed on a straight and level roadway for over a mile (meaning the transmission is not in the process of shifting). It is the weirdest feeling when it does it - almost like the accelerator is being pushed (even though it isn't) but not enough to cause the transmission to downshift. When I saw the TSB, the summary sounded similar to what I was experiencing, thence the request for the full TSB text.

thanks... i have noticed that slight engine surge as u had described on my car from time to time.. but not enough to warrant any panic. i'm due for an oil change and inspection so i'll go thru that before i have any major concerns. i'll be searching for the TSB as well..

I noticed that the TSBs that I am looking for are listed on the NHTSA site but not on the ALLDATA site. Does this make any sense? Shouldn't both sites have the same info? I'm also relieved to hear that someone else is experiencing the engine surge - I was beginning to wonder if my mind was playing tricks on me until I found the TSB reference.

Chris2001gle, I looked too, but the thing is that the ALLDATA site lists TSB's up to certain date. NHTSA lists all TSB's up to the current date.

so I got a refund!!!
as far as the engine surge...I have a manual tranny and I never worried about it.....but I did notice on my drive to and from Tallahassee when using cruise control...on a straight -a - way...the engine would slightly pull...but only when I use cruise control
don't you just love this car and all of its idiosyncrasies!!

Thicknes - thanks for the info on ALLDATA - I didn't realize they were so far behind in updating their TSBs. Has anyone actually paid for TSBs through NHTSA? I see they charge $ 35.45/hour for "requests involving computer searches" and $0.10/page for copying. I was just wondering what the actual cost of obtaining a full copy of a TSB through them would be. Wouldn't be too cool receiving a charge for 5 hours of "computer searching"!
