Don't feel bad. I get 13-15 mpg city/hwy if I drive it hard, but if I drive it easy, I can get 17 combined. But still, that's about what you get. Best Ive gotten on the hwy is 24. Have you taken it to the Dealer to check it out??

Re: nice change in gas mileage

403 vs290 seems a little high of a difference. R u sure that u did not only drive on the high way, when u got the plugs installed. If I could get 113 miles more just by changing the spark plugs believe me I would change them every time I change my oil

I posted this after i started the thread:
this is the best mileage i have gotten since i bought the car. i have gone about 360 bfr, but never over 400. When i changed the plugs. i also went tri-synthetic, cleaned the K&N, cleaned the Throttle, aired up all the tires. But the driving was the same as i do everyday.

I am at 147 and the needle is a tad above the first quarter. Will post how many miles the second tank fives, after the plug change etc.

The reason that there are large fluctuations in gas mileage is because people don't calculate it properly. You need to fill your tank and reset the trip meter to zero. The next time you need gas, fill the tank again, and determine how many gallons you purchased. Make sure the tank is filled. Divide the mileage by the gallons to determine the MPG. There is no other accurate way.

People in Canada will get higher MPG readings as Canadian gallons are 20% larger than USA gallons.

Years ago when i had my Civic I tried just about every brand of spark plugs imaginable. I always had a smoother running engine with better gas mileage using NGK's. I bought into the hype at that time about the spitfires adding 5hp, but the car ran horrible and the gas mileage dropped.

I wouldn't assume that the plugs are responsible for most of the change considering how much else you did - particularly cleaning the air filter and changing to syn, especially since the plugs are a 105kmi service item and important to passing smog.

This is pretty much what I get also on my 2k2 SE (when converted to MPG and US gallons). I have about 5K miles on it and average 17MPG (city and highway). The best I got was today (27MPG) but that was all highway at 65 (long weekend here, too many cops). If I only do city driving it can easily go down to 9-11 MPG (and I don't rely on the ****ty onboard computer which is way off...). I drive rather hard from stops (regular stops or street lights) which doesn't help and I have an Auto which doen't help either.

My former car was a Grand Prix GT 1999 and I was riding it harder than my MAX, but it never drank so much gas as my Nissan (and it ran on regular gas as opposed to the Maxima). On the upside, it never handled even close to the MAX...

for 4th gens

does anyone else's 4th gen stay full past the F for a while?
then when it goes past it the needle seems to go down fast.I clocked it and half a tank is at 160 miles for me
is this normal?

Weird. I just went 482.9 miles on 16.6 gallons of gas. That was mostly highway driving (Went to Seattle and back) but I did some messing around...including a little race with a new Eclpise and some sort of mitsu 3000gt (most likely non-turbo from its accel)

I usually get 360-380 on 15.8 around town. I've said this before...I dunno what you guys are doing to get such low MPG readings. Unless you have an auto or unless you haven't tried 5th or 6th gear.

I calculated mine out to be a little more than 450 miles on a tank of gas hwy. I have also calculated out that I get around 26.5 mpg hwy and I am still havent filled up my tank in the city yet. Let you all know then.

Can anyone tell me how long it took before you started getting your best gaz mileage figures after you bought the car? Was it after the first tank or 2 or after the first 2500 miles?

I'd get it checked out! That is terrible milage. I have a 2K2 and drive it like mad, but I always get over 20 MPG even in town. Over 25 on the highway.

i didn't know there would be such a big difference,,anyone care to shed some light on it??
Ok second tank gave me 378 miles ,,still don't understand why i got over 400 the first tank after tune-up..and yes the driving again was the same as i do everyday

It depens on how fast you drive too, i got great mileage, about 28-29 going 55-60 on cruise with a 5spd. Did some heavy starts too, and still got great mileage. This is after I replaced the MAF sensor. i usually get about 22-23 when going average of 80 MPH.

These numbers are all wonderful but why is there such a big gap.
I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima that I have treated well. I am running a stillen pop air intake, NGK Irodium plugs and I keep it under 3k rpm. I get on avg 250 miles. Now I am getting close to 100k miles on the car.

Now how the heck do you get over 300? This is mosly city.
With 2.60 a gallon for 93 I am not sure I wanna drive anymore.

Are these some "special" NGK plug? All I run in my cars are NGK plugs and I have never payed anywhere near that much per plug. The most I can ever remember spending was $2.76/plug. But then again I haven't done plugs on this car yet.
