Sub woofer Project...

Sub woofer Project...
I was thinking my 2002 SE didn't come with the Bose system but if you look thru the trunk does have the opening under the back panels where the bose sub would be.
would it be a good Idea to mount a sub on the rear deck? I was thinking of the Kicker Solobarick L7 10". It look like it would fit perfectly. but what i'm really worried about is if it would perform well without an enclosure?.
your knowledge on this would greatly be appreciated.

I think that using your trunk, as a sub box for a 10" might not work. Yes a speaker need to breathe but I think the trunk is too much. Your best bet is to get a separate enclosure for the speaker and place that in your trunk. About 7 years ago I use to build speaker so I had to learn about how different speakers work in different boxes. The reason the bose sub song like s**t when you turn up the base is 1: the speaker itself is crappy 2: the trunk is too big so you get a lot of unwanted vibration in the speaker. If you were to take the Bose sub and put it in a box that was built on the specs of the speaker it would song 100 times better. But the speaker and box is only one part of this, you have to think about the right amp even the wires that you use make a big-big-big difference.

Subwoofer
I have a 2K2 SE with the Bose system and this is what I did. Originally I had a 12 woofer in the trunk (For Sale) but it was just to loud for me. I purchased a 8' Kicker Comp VR and switched it with the bose subwoofer. However it is running off a seperate amp. The sound is much clearer and there is no trunk rattle at all. Anyone who hears it agrees on how much better it sounds than the box in the trunk. Just a suggestion

I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with the sub myself. I don't need anything too radical, but the Bose one pretty much bites. I did the "velcro" vibration fix on Sunday which did help the sound quite a bit though.

Can you just toss it in there, no. Can you do it yes...But you have to seal the trunk up, and reenforce the deck and pick the right sub, not all subs work in that kind of a setup.

I can put a 12" woofer and 18.5 inch amp in my trunk and will hardly take up any space. fiberglass.

If you really want to go free-air, then there's more to it than just slapping it onto the bottom-side of the package shelf. Also, you need to buy a specific kind of sub (free-air)...not just any sub. Most brands make dozens of models of subs and a few free-air ones, if that tells you anything. I would go with a small, sealed box in the trunk.
