so everyone's cars were made with failing cats?
this has been the generic answer... possible it's a poor design.

I have read threw a lot of these fourms on the "Rotten Egg Smell" because i am having this problem with mine. I have 105000km on her and i get the smell when i acellerate rapidly.

So far from what ive read it has to do with the fuel - i use Sunoco 94 and always have once a month i put fuel injector cleaner in.

so it looks like the cat, are there any recommendations on cat's ?? in Ontario there are very strict on running a car without one so this option is not available to me.

What cat would be recommended to cure this (obvioulsy not a stock one) ?

Thanks for any input regarding this.

As I wrote earlier, I got an aftermarket y-pipe without the cat. The two front cats are still on. No more smell. I pass emissions in Virginia with no issue. I suspect the extra cat is what helps NISSAN get the ULEV certification.

Or have a machine shop cut the third cat and fit a straight piece of pipe.

Smell is gone.

Would you guess what my smell is gone. I installed the Fujita CAI and after my installation even after i accelerate fast the smell is no longer there. Before i had k & N drop in filter. Can anyone else confirm after they installed a CAI the smell went away.

Dealers explanation of smell

I just started getting the smell when I have the AC on and it is recirculating the cabin air. According to the dealer it is my CAI (Fujita) and the aftermarket exaust? I have 40,000 on an 08 and I have had these mods on there since it had about 3000 miles on it, why all of the sudden? They also tried to tell me that my car is running lean at about 12.7, my BullyDog shows 14.8ish? My conclusion is that the dealership is full of **** and does not know what it is. I have an appointment with a mechanic next week to take a look. I't's interesting that so many people are having this issue?

Had the problem in all three of my Maximas. It is sulfur dioxide and seems to be less common with cheaper, low-grade gas

I have had the rotten egg smell for some time. Never really thought it was a problem. Now I am getting the P0420 code, which has to do with the cat. So it may be normal, but it seems that they made be linked.

I don't want to press any buntons but could it be the engine?
