So your telling me that I can have 298hp like teh G35 if nissan had my throttle body open further uner WOT?

That seems very far fetched , considering they have different headers, intake plenums etc.

Thanks,

that 298 is crank remember, we already have 280hp just with the ecu and intake, so whats another 18? thats a better header thats all..

I'll let you know when I get my ECU and dynoed. The G35 one I have, the VVT kicks in earlier, at about 3500RPM, and the car flies; my wife even commented about how much harder the car pulls as a passenger.

I'm as curious as you are. However, think about this: bigger plenums, headers, etc., same throttle body.

I suspected this and asked Tadashi about it last year when I ordered my L-Spec, he confirmed it to be true. So my plan was to get a stock 350Z map (VTC and ignition) put on my 2k2 ECU if/when I got around to sending it back.

Since I drove more than 50 miles and no CEL, the cheap way out might be to get an ECU from a wrecked Z or G w/ same tranny and TCS or VDC, clone the key and the way you go; 15+ HP.

That isn't where to get 15hp from. That only makes the engine putout a little more torque at a lower RPM than before. Our ECUs are tuned the way they are because of the dual stage intake manifold. The G35 ECU does not have that so they use a different VTC ramping.

It basically means that our intake manifolds have 2 stages of operation; one stage for low rpm operation and one stage for high rpm operation via a power valve to control the incoming airflow.

Very loosely put, the point of this is to sort of get the best of both worlds: to give the car some low end torque by maintaining a certain runner length and airflow speed while also letting things open up at high rpms by shortening the path of airflow and effectively increasing the volume.

Some general information I found via Google:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variabl...ntake_manifold

And a Nissan explanation of the variable intake theory from the 5th Gen Stickies:

http://www.nissanusa.com/vehicles/Me...20702|,00.html

I believe the reason why the Zs don't suffer from much low end loss despite having a single stage manifold is because of the way their ECU is set-up, which is probably what SR20DEN was getting at above.

Who's 6MT's ECU are we sending to Japan? I think Deus was going to call them. If his version of firmware is different than yours, you may have to do the same. For example: 5AT w/ TCS is diff from one w/ VDC and one w/o either; if I'd use Tek's version, my TCS won't work.

I thought this was already being done? I offered to do it but everyone who was in the area seemed to jump on it, or so I thought. If people arent gonna make the effort then I will because I wanna get things rollin for the 6 speed guys.

Call TS, see if they can send you a temp ECU while yours is in Japan, like mine. Unless Deus beat you to it. Call them anyway.

if the price hasn't been mentioned yet, then it is $590 for the 5-speed auto ecu; i got this info from a local tuner shop of mine and they also said that the car would be out for about 3-4 days

By whom? TS doen't have a completed spec for 6th gen yet. Tadashi is working on TEk's mapping, and my ECU is'nt back from Japan yet. Their price should be $495, same as other VQ35.

Depending on where you are, 3-4 days would be about right.

I sent mines yesterday at around 6pm eastern time and it got there in CA at 9am today, so I should expect mines tomorrow morning..

I am in MA, Cali is across the usa from me, so it should take 2-3 days max. from when you take it off to when you get it back, but we'll see, I'll keep you updated on it..

my dyno chart shows it... it has a line about on 12, anything lower is rich, anything above is lean, we are too high(lean) is some areas..

if we can get those lean spots down closer to 12 in fuel, we can gain some more hp on those spots..

my tuner guy says another 8-10hp possibly..

Keep in mind that factory setting is for better fuel economy below 3K RPM. Richer mix at the bottom will reduce the MPG by 2-3MPG, if not more; but we'll get mor TQ.

From the AF chart, you are running lean but not too badly. You're around 14:1 in some places, but overall you're still between 12 and 14, which isn't too bad. Ideally, you want a flat as possible line around 13.5 for VQ35 N/A applications. IMO, 12 is too rich and you will be missing out on some power and mpg.

yep on the chart the line is on 13 not 12 sorry.. the car runs flat at 13 or so then starts to rise to 14 half way through, I want it to stay flat above 13 or so, we'll see what TS did with it...

Okay, just wanted to make sure....

Flat as possible is ideal, because apparently the "bumps" cause a little power loss.

they sure do, I was just looking at the file in "cursor" mode wich tells you what hp you have exacly where the cursor is, and it does loose some power when it leans like that, hopefully they fix it and I have a nice even arch on the hp side and the bumps flaten out some..

By TechnoSquare, but i guess the guy was jsut giving me a price and did not know that it was not completed yet so idk then, and he also told me it would cost $590.......and if that's with instalation, i do not know....the price that u mentioned of $495, is that with instalation? Thanks!

O ya, I also have a question on the 5-spd automatic ECU upgrade. When you're just driving normaly then will the trans. shift at a higher rpm than it did with the stock ECU?

TS doesn't charge installation, cause you take it out and send it to them, they will then send it back to you to install yourself...

the auto like mines shifts like stock when driving normal, it does shift faster with less lag in the shift.

when driving fast or pressing the gas pedal down hard, it will up shift at 6500 rpms, it almost redlines.. the rpms also remain high and they don't drop off like stock, its raw power.

I love it, can't wait till I'm done with it..

IMO, sounds like a middle man price, I tend to not deal with people who pull prices out their a$$es or had nothing to do with the mod process for which I am installing...

O, sorry i'm a noob with ECU's i guess. I didn't know it was just a few screws and it slides out type of thing, since i found that out today! lol and wait.....isn't the stock redline 6600? and with the upgraded ecu it will b 6500? or did i misunderstand you?

are you talking shifting on auto or manualmatic?

there is a difference there... I have the ecu so mines shift closer to 7k, I forget what stock is...

I have the 5-speed automatic with manual mode....so your telling me that in manual mode i can shift it higher? I ask this becasue i was doing manual mode and the thing still shifted at the redline that it would shift at in auto.....and you say yours shifts closer to 7k, and is that auto or using the manumatic?

when mines shift that high that would be manualmatic, auto still shifts at the regular rpms...

on manual, you can hold it pass the shift point and shift it when its at a higher rpms though, they only thing is you have to get used to it cause hold it to long and the car will hit the rev limiter..

the key is to hold the shifter down then let go when you pass the shifting point or almost redline..
