Each kind of catback is priced diff. I paid $650 shipped to my house for my Nismo Catback + $100 installed with the 2.5 inch extension.. so around $750. Most catbacks are bolt-on, which you probably can install yourself OR have a mechanic you know install for you and charge you cheap. I would've installed mine myself, except I needed the welded-on extension.

I really dont wanna put something on my car made for a friggin Altima but everyone here seems to be praising it more than the Greddy. Anyone have the Nismo that does NOT recommend it?

Mr. TopDolla:

I got mine from LeeParts.com. You'll need to get the 02-06 Altima Nismo catback if your car is 04-06 Maxima. I'm not sure if it also fits the 07-08. Check my cardomain page and you'll see the exhaust being installed. The only thing you need to do is extend it 2.5 inches and you're set to go. Any shop can do it with no problem.

Mr Blackness Monsta:

Whether the exhaust is made for the Altima or not won't make a difference. It's the same exhaust what use to be made for a Maxima, but since it's not available in the market to purchase, you'll have to be creative with what you got. What makes modding interesting is how creative you can be to get the results you want.

I was definately unaware that it was ever made for the Maxima
I guess Im just bitter lol...they make more mods for the Altima than the better performing and more powerful maxima...but newayz what do u think of the exhaust so far??

I spoke to Brian at Cattman today (Nice guy seems very knowlegable) I have not made a decision and wanted to get your feedback. I have not decided whether or not to go with the full header, Y pipe and B pipe system?? Or just do the Y pipe and B pipe? One thing Brian said was that he thought the stock mufflers on the 08 had plenty of flow and did not really need to be replaced? Thought's? The Y pipe from Cattman is over $100 more than from Raceline, is it worth the difference? I am leaning towards the Cattman because I do not want to lose low end power and the size of the pipe used in the Nismo and Greddy seem to be in question??? Please correct me or provide additional input if any of the fact's listed are incorrect.

Thanks

Depends how much money you have and what you want to do. Full header back system is sweet but seems like you have a brand new car. I'd just start with the Y-pipe and see how you like it. I have a Cattman but the choice between the two is yours.

What are your goals?

Thanks for the feedback. My goals are to get additional Horsepower and speed!!!!!!! I just bought the car and love it, so far I have put on aftermarket wheels and tires. I am going to put on the spacers, CAI, grounding kit, exaust and any other mods I can get my hands on. I do not want to get to agressive meaning I don't want to run 1/4's or anything. I just want to be able to play and win every now and then. What do you think about the stock mufflers? I was going to go with the Nismo system until I spoke to Brian but now if I can keep the original mufflers that would be nice.

Thanks

Cool. If you are going to do headers then you ought to go to the track. Heck you ought to go to the track anyway, it's a blast (not to mention legal). At least start out with the y-pipe.

Does anyone one here actually have a Remus muffler on their Max? I'd like to hear what it sounds like. A universal Remus muffler is only about $300, not too bad.

Thats almost double the price of magnaflow.
I think Chernmax has remus, but then again he has so many mods that ur car probably wont sound like his...

True. I just want the best sound I can get without droning. The Magnaflow 14807, 14805, & 14816 all look good but I wonder how they sound compared to the Remus. I like the Remus sound (kind of like Porsche, BMW...) but would prefer to not pay top dollar. I already have a WSP Y-pipe and am thinking to go with a metallic-substrate hi-flow cat, mandrel bent B-pipe with resonator, and then one of these mufflers. I like the throaty sport sound and already have some of that with my Y-pipe and HAI w/ Stillen filter, but I don't want it to get too loud. Suggestions?

Its subjective. I like Cattman products since that is what I purchased and I bought a complete exhaust, although you can get the Catback alone if you wish.

Well, I looked them up on youtube and found that most of them are on 4-bangers. The one I heard on a VW GTI VR6 sounded pretty kickin'! Do you have any links to them on a Maxima or other V6 Nissan? They seem pretty inexpensive. Do they specialize in the low key look? They seem similar to Magnaflow.

Nismo catback would be the "not too loud" solution

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate you guys keeping this thread alive...

this thread was created back in July 08, and I already went with the Nismo Catback... & as far as satisfaction, I'm very happy with the Nismo, even though some might think it's not too loud, but it actually is loud lol. It might not be as loud as Magnaflows, etc, but it's pretty dang loud imo.

Many people want the sound of a G35, but no exhaust will be exact. I chose Nismo becuz it's Nissan made, and I figured I'd be "my" best choice, considering I have the Nismo CAI, etc.

If your gonna spend all that money on the exhaust, why not CATTMAN?

If I lived in the States I would have bought the Cattman system without thinking twice!

Cattman, Nismo, Magnaflow... I'm all about brand name too... but what about Stillen? I was debating between the three, Nismo, Magnaflow or Stillen. I haven't seen too many people with or recommending the Stillen system. Why? Is it the "reasonable sound level"? Is it too reasonable? I have a Modified Subaru Legacy too. It has Magnaflows on but my god are they ever loud. I put the stock headers back on, because it was too loud (and because they kept cracking). It sounds like a Harley Davidson.

I like sound but I don't want to fall asleep with the drone like in the Subaru. And I definately don't want it to be ricer. And with all these posts, I don't know what to think. Too much good information.

Does anyone know if the 2007-08 altima nismo exhaust can be modified to work on the 2005 maxima?

You just need a 2" extenstion to the nismo exhaust

I know the 2002-06 altima(110.2 wheelbase) is about 1 inch longer then 2007-08 altima(109.3 wheelbase) so you are saying the pipe diameters are the same size but the b pipe is shorter on the 2007 altima. Has anyone tried to use the 2007-08 altima nismo exhaust for the maxima yet.

Not that I know of. It sounds like you would be welding in 2inches instead of 1in.

Many people have asked that Q... and I'm in the process of getting an answer for everyone that's wondering about it.

Check out this thread on the other org...

http://www.6thgenmaxima.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8780

Again, I'm in the process in getting a definite answer for you guys, also for everyone on the other org. Stay tuned... I'll get the result soon.

I dont think the 2007-2008 altima exhaust will work on our cars. Every company I have called said that its a different car. You can make it work but it will take chopping up the exhaust which that defeats the whole purpose of buying the exhaust. I might have a contact that can get us the 2002-2006 nismo exhaust for the altima for around $700.00 but I'll keep you posted on that.

First of all I want to thank importroller for taking the time to come out to my place (10 mins away lol) to get this issue answered.

Here are our findings after doing some measurements.

07 Altima 3.5SE Sedan & Maxima with 3rd gen Altima Nismo Exhaust

Cat to resonator:
Altima = 10"
Maxima = 12"

Resonator:
both cars is 22"

End of Resonator to Rear Y split:
Altima = 45"
Maxima = 50"

End of Resonator to Mounting bracket by Y-split:for
Altima = 49"
Maxima = 54"

cat to the Y-split mounting bracket:
Altima = 81"
Maxima = 88"

From the center of the exhaust hole on the rear bumpers:
Both cars = 40" from center to center

So the 07-08 Altima's Nismo Exhaust should fit, with a 6-7" extension pipe, I'm giving a 1" difference to allow for any bends I may not have taken into account.

The shape of the Nismo exhaust for Altimas and Maximas is the same... it's just the length of the pipes involved that's a bit different.

Any exhaust shop can put hangers on where they need to go to fit your rubber mounts.

Please see this thread for more details...

Of course shops will tell you it's a different car bro... that's typical of any shop. According to WINTERFAUST on the other org (service advisor in a dealer), there are only 2 Nismo 02-06 Altima exhausts in the NATION, so I highly doubt your contacts can get it.

you could also just pick out a set of mufflers you like and have a shop make any type of exhaust system you like. pipes wont be stainless steel but the price is right and im having an awsome set of pipes put on my 06 max. the mufflers i have dont have tips attached, im picking out the tips i want at the shop. an up side to this is that all exhaust you buy online is usually clamp on which will leak over time. mine is going to be fully welded.
