Car Won't Start

I tried to start my 2004 Maxima this morning and it wouldn't start. The headlights, gauges, and stereo all came on. It made a series of fast paced clicking noises and the interior lights flickered. It was cold outside (4 degrees F), but my car is parked in the garage. Anyone have any ideas? I just took my other car to work but will look at it further tonight.

I am guessing this is what I get from only driving it 1 or 2 times per week. Now I've got to find a cheap charger or jump it tonight.

Weak battery, cold weather kills a weak/old battery, oem batteries only last at the most about 5 years, but first check for loose or corrosion at the terminals

I just got back to the states after 3 weeks last night and tried turning my car on but it wouldn't start. Lights were very dim and alarm sound was very dull as well. Live in Pennsylvania so it's cold out here and car wasn't started for three weeks, so i'm assuming time for a new battery? Optima the way to go?

Yellow top here. There are alot of different opinions on what battery is the best, use what you think is right for your application and pocketbook.

I have the battery on a charger. I have had the battery around a year and got it from Batteries Plus. I charged it for a few hours and got anxious. It ALMOST turned over. I'll let it hit the "full charge" light this time. Fingers crossed.

Well. The car started after charging the battery. Do you guys think its just a bad battery? I only have driven it a couple times in the last few weeks (maybe 50 miles), so maybe the clock, cd changer, etc. just draining it in that time frame? I am just trying to decide if I should take the battery back to Batteries Plus since its not that old.

I just had the same exact problem last week. I had a Redtop and it was toast. And to be honest I never found any real advantage to the Optima. I got a Duralast and everything is running way better, stereo doesn't cut off, windows roll up faster, car starts better...

If the battery is as new as you said, I'd take it back. Most battereries have a 1 year full replacement warrenty. DOn't tell them it sat fior 3 weeks. For guys that need a new batteries I've heard both good and bad for Ultima's, but have since heard they are not as good now that they are made out of the country.

Belive it or not Consumer Reports rates the MAXX batteries from Walmart as the 2nd best after Interstate. They run about $70 and have a 3 year full replacemnet and then a 7 or 9 year prorated warrenty. If you have tons of A/V accessories I'm not sure how you should go, but for normal stuff I think the MAXX is the way to go.

I replaced my OEM battery with the Duralast Gold with 750 CCA and never had a problem. When I went to get my replacement for my OEM I was gonna get the Optima but the salesguy said they were junk and for half the price I could have a battery that is twice as good and with a better warranty. It may not be as "pretty" as the Optima but its function is great. The Max started right up today in my garage with the heater set to on, the heated seats set to on, the radio on and the auto hid headlights on and it was -12F outside. Not bad for a battery that was less than $100.

I have a red top and the big reason was that I hated the corrosion that occurred on the lead acid battery. Ate my battery tie down. runs pretty well so far, but time will tell.

My battery has done it after using the battery while engine is off in the cold. almost 5 years so I just won't use it like that. Should clean the corrosion that returned. Once it starts to act up Interstate will be my next battery. served me well on my old beater. for the price, 7 year warranty, and 800 CCA what would be better?

Well, after I charged it up the thing is as good as new. I took it in for a free battery test at Batteries Plus and the guy acted like I was crazy. "This is the best battery I've tested all day." It does start OK and my AVIC-D3 display was reporting like 14.2V to 14.7V at all times. I think just comes from me not driving it much in the winter since I use the Murano to get around in the snow. Thanks to all that helped.
