p1402 wont go away!!!!

help.... please...
2006 Maxima 40,000 miles
one year ago i got the p1402 code. had the EGR replaced at CARMAX. code came back 6 months later. took it to local mechanic service shop for fix. they said the egr was functioning fine. they cleared the code cleaned out the egr real good and said to bring it back in if the code comes back. the NEXT day the code returns. Took it back in... this time it threw 2 codes pointing to the cat.converter. They sent me to NISSAN. Had the cat replaced at dealership.
p1402 returns 2 days later. This time NISSAN said it was unrelated to the CAT TSB. They did clean out the EGR again at no cost. The next day the code returns. UGH
This apparently is unfixable! 3 different places have have worked on my car in the last year.
The ongoing symptoms with this code are:
SLOW to start (several cranks)
occasional slight rough idle
maybe hesitation at acceleration

Any advice?????

Did they replace both cats or just one? Any mods on your car?

Okay codes for cats are:
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)
P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

Your code p1402 - P1402 - EGR Function (Open)

Check out this thread see if that helps.

helpful hints for RESETTING ECU

I WAS GOING TO POST THIS IN A NEW THREAD BUT FOR WHATEVER REASON THE SITE IS NOT ALLOWING ME... SO AFTER ABOUT 30 MINS OF TRYING TO RESET MY ECU IN MY 2004 MAX I FINALLY GOT IT,, NOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE REALLY GOOD,, ESPECIALLY THE ONES ON EHOW WHEN IT STATES A STOP WATCH MAKES IT A WHOLE LOT EASIER.... NOW WIT THAT BEING SAID... I THINK THE PPL WHO BROUGHT THE DIRECTIONS TO THIS SITE LEFT OUT ONE REALLY IMPORTANT DETAIL....

turn key to ON wait 3/secs

now this was where i was messing up.. i was pumping 5 times so fast that i would do 5 pumps of the accelerator in like 3/secs or less... WHICH IS OK.. but u still have to wait 5 secs before you can move on to the next step which is.....

SO WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR TO ON 3/SECS GONE BY... NOW YOU PUMPED 5 TIMES,, WAIT TILL UR STOP WATCH GETS TO 8/SECS before WAITING THE 7/SECS... kinda confusing i know but just think about it and it will make sense.. so AT 15 SECS YOU SHOULD BE PRESSING THE PEDAL FOR APPRX. 10/SECS OR UNTIL LIGHT COMES ON

waiting 7 secs to mash the pedal for 10/secs or until lights comes on...

now with that being said follow the instructions as stated,, and definitely use a stop watch (most cellphones have one)...

i know this is probably really outdated but i am sure there are ppl here who still haven't been able to reset there ECUs and are scared to say something because of some of you internet bullies with a napoleon complex.

ANY BODY NEED ANY HELP LET ME KNOW,, BECAUSE I CAN WALK U STEP BY STEP... I THOUGHT AT FIRST D*MN THIS CANT POSSIBLY WORK BUT LISTEN.. TWO THINGS FOR SURE, ONE THING FOR CERTAIN IT REALLY WORKKKKKKS!!!!!

THANKS TO THE POSTERS IM REALLY HAPPY TO FINALLY HAVE THIS SES LIGHT OFF... I MIGHT ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO KEEP IT OFF LONG ENOUGH TO GET AN INSPECTION

See if you can have the 2nd cat checked out. That may be the problem.

I recently had my three way catalytic converter replaced along with my cam & crank position sensors and my 04 maxima is still not starting on the first try? it always starts by 2nd try but it usually happens when the car has been off for a few hours.any suggestions before I take it to dealer?
